Sydney Colson, a seasoned WNBA veteran, is back at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where she once celebrated a championship victory with Texas A&M. The point guard has returned to the Indiana Fever, this time with the goal of winning another title in the WNBA. Colson, who has enjoyed a decade-long career in the league, brings invaluable experience to the Fever, especially given her history of success in both college and professional basketball.
Her journey began in Indiana in 2011 when her Texas A&M Aggies triumphed over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to claim the NCAA National Championship. Now, Colson is determined to make a similar impact with the Fever, joining a young and dynamic team with high aspirations. She signed a one-year contract with the Fever in February, looking to lend her expertise to Indiana’s budding stars while also contributing on the court. As a player known for her defensive prowess and playmaking skills, Colson is eager to provide the leadership the Fever need as they prepare for a championship run.
In a conversation with the media, Colson expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to join a team that sees her value. “Stephanie [White] just talked to me about how she saw me fitting in as a piece on court for the team, and that was really important to me,” Colson shared. The 35-year-old guard has played for several WNBA teams throughout her career, including stints with the Las Vegas Aces, where she won two championships in 2022 and 2023. Now, she hopes to bring that championship mentality to Indiana and help elevate the Fever to new heights.
Amber Cox, the Fever’s Chief Operating Officer and General Manager, believes Colson’s presence is vital for the team. Cox emphasized that Colson’s leadership and positive attitude will significantly impact the locker room. “We have ultimate faith and trust in her,” Cox said. “In any situation that we put her in, she’s going to be able to lead our team.” Along with her leadership, Colson is expected to contribute on the court, especially with her defensive capabilities and ability to set up plays for her teammates. Cox sees the addition of Colson as an important piece in building a balanced and competitive team.
The Fever are building around a promising core of young stars, including Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and Caitlin Clark. With veteran players like Colson joining the ranks, Indiana is positioning itself for a strong championship push. “The consistent theme for all of them is that they want to win a championship,” Cox noted. As Colson joins the Fever’s mix of young talent and experienced players, the hope is that her winning mentality will inspire the team to reach new levels of success in the upcoming season. With Colson’s leadership and a deep roster, the Fever’s quest for a championship is far from out of reach.
