Manchester City’s recent rivalry with Liverpool has been one of the best in Premier League history. In recent years, the two teams have gone head to head on the pitch, resulting in two epic title races. Manchester City beat Liverpool by one point in both the 2018/19 and 2021/22 seasons. The rivalry has also spilled over into off-the-field issues.
According to Kieran Maguire of footballinsider247.com, Liverpool is putting pressure on the Premier League to resolve the Premier League’s case against Manchester City. The European champions are facing 115 charges for allegedly violating Premier League financial regulations. City’s case is currently being heard before an independent commission after the Premier League charged the treble winners.
While all parties involved in the Manchester City case want a resolution, it will take time. Because of the complexities of the Premier League’s case against Manchester City, a resolution may not be reached in the near future. According to Martyn Ziegler of the New York Times, City’s case could take two to four years to resolve.
The match between Manchester City and Liverpool was originally scheduled for 5.30 p.m. on Saturday. A local safety advisory group, which included Manchester Police, refused to allow the game to begin at the scheduled time. Due to safety concerns following several incidents of crowd trouble last season, the kickoff time was changed to 12.30 p.m.
On the field, the two clubs have had a rivalry that has raised the Premier League’s standards. The rivalry has now spread off the field. All of these factors have combined to make it a must-see attraction.
