Romelu Lukaku absolved Man City of responsibility but Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp maintained a comfortable advantage.

Man City moved within five points of Liverpool after winning the Champions League for the first time. However, it received unusually strong support, and not just from Romelu Lukaku.

Although Romelu Lukaku may have cemented his place in Manchester City mythology before Rodri, outsiders may remember this Champions League final more for him. He came off the bench in the second half and played a part in two crucial moments that determined the outcome of the game.

Piling on is unfair. At the end of the day, one of the players played poorly. This occurs frequently; it’s just unfortunate that the stakes were raised significantly in this particular case. Liverpool in particular should recognize that the Belgian will already be punished himself more than enough after standing with Loris Karius last year.
