Munoz identifies and Highlights specific Wednesday issue ahead of Hull test

Sheffield Wednesday overcame a stubborn Stockport County side in midweek, with the Owls needing penalties to eventually get through to the next round of the EFL Cup.

It follows the Owls’ opening night defeat at home to Southampton. The Saints came and left with a 2-1 win in what was a hardened opening performance from

Sheffield Wednesday.

But Xisco Munoz’s side conceded in the eighth minute of that Southampton game, and then in the 16th minute of the Stockport game, with Munoz highlighting his

side’s ability to concede early on as a pressing issue.

Speaking to the club, Munoz said:

“One of the things we need to improve is our first minutes. I’m not happy about this situation. We conceded against Southampton in the first minutes and today

again.

“You can never stay in this situation. One of the most important things about my teams is to go from the beginning – not wait until the second half.”

Sheffield Wednesday showed a lot of grit to score a late equaliser v Stockport and then to beat the Hatters on penalties.

But conceding early and conceding first will always give the Owls a tough task in games; constantly having to come from behind to salvage a point, if that.

Wednesday’s flaws and how to fix them…

There’s still a lot of learning for Wednesday to do under Munoz and in their return to Championship football.

It’s another new-look side and having played under Darren Moore for a prolonged amount of time, it’s inevitably going to take time for the players to adjust to

Munoz’s ways – doing so in a new division makes things a bit trickier as well.

But as the teams plays more football together and as more new names arrive and improve the side, things should steadily get better for the Owls.

They have another tough game on the agenda this weekend against Hull, but if Wednesday can get through the frst half without conceding – and, even better, with a goal advantage – then at least one of Munoz’s worries will start to simmer.
