The Clarets are preparing for their first season in the Premier League under Vincent Kompany.
Before their August 11 Premier League season opener, Burnley hopes to expand on their summer transfer transaction.
The Turf Moor team has brought in Jordan Beyer, Dara O’Shea, Lawrence Vigouroux, and Michael Obafemi thus far during
the transfer window. However, players are still rumored to be interested in joining Vincent Kompany’s team as Burnley
looks to build on its title-winning season from the previous year.
We’ve compiled all the most recent Clarets-related news below.
Millwall stand firm over Flemming
Burnley have seen a fourth bid rejected by Millwall for Zian Flemming, according to London News Online. The Dutchman is
a target for the Clarets after his 15-goal first season with the Lions. Signed from Fortuna Sittard for £1.7million last summer,
Flemming proved his quality in the Championship.
When asked about the player last week, Millwall chief Gary Rowett said: “He is a very good player, it doesn’t surprise me
there is interest from the Premier League.”
Verbruggen speculation brought to an end
Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the signing of Bert Verbruggen from Anderlecht. The goalkeeper was on
Burnley’s transfer wish list but the Seagulls have won the race. The 20-year-old has reportedly cost Brighton around £17m,
with it claimed that the Clarets saw a £13m bid rejected.
On the signing, Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi said: “I am very pleased to have signed Bart. He is used to playing a type of
football similar to ours and he will have no problem fitting into our group. He has the potential to become a very important
player for the club in the coming years.”
Lokonga deal proving tough
The Sun report that Arsenal want to sell Albert Sambi Lokonga to Burnley, but that the two clubs are finding it difficult to
get a deal over the line. It’s claimed that a loan could be the eventual solution, with Lokonga looking to get back on track
after a mixed loan spell at Crystal Palace. The same report claims that Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford is wanted
permanently by Burnley, who face competition from Leicester City.
Kovacic x Kompany
New Manchester City midfielder Mateo Kovacic has spoken of his admiration for Vincent Kompany. After completing his
summer move to the Etihad Stadium, from Chelsea, the Croatia international sat down with in-house media to watch some
of his new club’s most iconic goals.
And when shown Kompany’s rocket against Leicester City in 2018/19, Kovacic said: “Incredible. I think I saw Aguero, in an
interview or on the pitch, (say) that when he was about to shoot he said: ‘Don’t shoot’. I was thinking the same, because for a
centre-back to come to 25 metres to shoot you don’t expect it. But, this goal is amazing and he deserves it.
“I don’t know him but from outside, what a character and a leader and a captain. It’s incredible. He now shows the same at
management as well, that he knows football and he’s a big leader. So, in big moments you need big players and Kompany,
for sure, is one of the big players for this club.”
Sadiki bid on the table
Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports Burnley have submitted a €1m bid for Anderlecht defender Noah Sadiki. Talks
are said to be ‘advancing’ with the player’s agent. The versatile, 21-year-old defender has been linked with Rangers and
Borussia Dortmund previously. He has made 18 first-team appearances for the Belgian side and has one year left to run on
his contract.
And Romano also claims that Borussia Dortmund midfielder Soumaila Coulibaly is heading to Burnley on loan, with a
mandatory buy clause, in a deal worth €15m in total.
