The 25-year-old paid £15 million to join the Villans from Manchester City in the summer of 2019 with the intention of playing Premier League football on a regular basis for the first time in his career.
Luiz joined the Second City team four years ago, making 170 appearances, scoring 18 goals across all competitions, and assisting his team in qualifying for the Europa Conference League this year.
Since making his debut for the South American powerhouse Brazil in October 2019, the midfielder has also made an occasional appearance for the national team. He has nine caps to his name.
It has been reported by Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano that Luiz may be leaving Aston Villa in the New Year’s transfer window.
According to the source, Mikel Arteta’s team is still interested in signing the midfielder because they want to strengthen their midfield before the second half of the season.
Given that Thomas Partey is presently injured and Jorginho, a former Chelsea player, is uncertain about his future, it is believed that the North London team is looking to add players for their engine room.
Villa is hoping to be able to keep the 25-year-old on staff, but it is thought that Luiz is Arsenal’s preferred option at the moment.
The midfielder’s current Villa Park contracts expire at the end of the 2025–2026 season, so Unai Emery’s team won’t be risking losing him for nothing anytime soon.
Luiz has started 11 Premier League games and scored five goals this season, making him an important member of Villa’s squad that is pursuing the top four.
The Brazil international was benched for his team’s Conference League encounter against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night, but the former Vasco da Gama player scored the game-winning assist for Ollie Watkins after coming off the bench.
Luiz is probably going to be spared for Villa’s remaining two group-stage matches against Legia Warsaw and Zrinjski Mostar because that win over the Eredivisie team was their third in Group E and virtually guaranteed their passage into the knockout stages.
For the first time this season, Luiz and his Villa colleagues will be trying to prevent consecutive Premier League losses when they play Fulham under Marco Silva on Sunday afternoon at Villa Park.
