What a Word: Jurgen Klopp fires back at Moises Caicedo 🤣🤣

Jurgen Klopp fires back at Moises Caicedo 🤣🤣

Both Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia were signed by Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but Reds manager Jurgen Klopp isn’t sleeping well over losing out.

According to Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool was “lucky” not to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to Chelsea.

Liverpool had targeted both Lavia and Caicedo in the summer transfer window, but the midfield pair—then of Brighton and Southampton, respectively—ended up in West London for a combined £173 million. Wataru Endo, a relatively unknown Stuttgart star, was brought in by Klopp’s team for a meagre £15 million to strengthen their defensive midfield options. Having made an impression thus far, the 30-year-old Japanese international is more than satisfied with the outcome.

When questioned about developing “Liverpool 2.0” this season, Klopp laughed with the crowd about missing out on some goals during a Q&A session in front of Liverpool supporters on Monday while their extended Anfield Road End stand was tested. “The summer we had with a few strange things happen in the transfer market but here between us I can say, ‘My god, we were lucky’,” said the German.

“To be honest, we were unaware of that at the time and didn’t realise it. However, I am rather pleased with how things turned out. You never know how things can turn out.”

The captain Jordan Henderson, the pivot Fabinho, and the venerable James Milner were among the five central midfield players Klopp had to cope with over the summer. “I had an extremely good feeling before we started pre-season, we already had Macca [Alexis Mac Allister] and Dom [Szoboszlai] already in and then we knew there was a chance for Ryan [Gravenberch],” Klopp continued.

“Then, it became evident to us that other central defensive midfield players were unwilling to join Liverpool. Well, you get the picture. Next, we discovered Endo. He’s an exceptional player, he is, absolutely.

“It’s not conceivable; he’s thirty years old, experienced, and the captain of Japan. The transfer market operates that way; we don’t take a thirty-year-old player who plays in Germany and is on the verge of being demoted. But thank God, after giving it some more thought, we found this youngster who firmly desired to attend, which is helpful.”

The Liverpool manager continued, praising his team, who had topped the Premier League table with 37 points from their first 16 games. Meanwhile, Lavia is yet to make his debut due to injury, while Caicedo has failed to live up to his £115 million price tag.

As Klopp put it: “We have a group of players that are full of desire and passion and who will give everything to this club. We have a squad together and, if you want, a new leadership group with very experienced players who are still young in some cases.” Thus, that marks the beginning, and we now need to work towards creating something exceptional.”
