‘No I’m not’ – Tottenham supporters send clear message over Ange Postecoglou to Liverpool links
Tottenham Hotspur supporters have played down the suggestion Ange Postecoglou could be on his way to Liverpool this summer once Jurgen Klopp leaves the club.
Postecoglou’s name has been included in the list of potential candidates to replace Klopp at Anfield as the German prepares to bring to an end his near nine-year stay on Merseyside. Xabi Alonso is the current frontrunner at 2/5, with the Spurs boss slightly further down the list at odds of 14/1.
The Australian was of course only appointed Spurs’ new coach ahead of the current campaign, bringing some much-needed stability to the club around the time of Harry Kane’s departure, and has impressed in his first few months at the helm.
Tottenham supporters do not wish to see the Australian move on so early into his career in the capital and made as much clear on social media after Liverpool began being linked with the ex-Celtic coach. Listed below are a selection of responses to the Postecoglou to Liverpool rumours.
Responding to the news of Klopp’s impending departure, Postecoglou told reporters on Friday: “I guess I was as surprised as anyone else because he’s a top manager and they are flying at the moment. But also understanding at the back of my mind that probably all of us who have been in the game a while, it’s the constant thought in your heads because you know how much you need to put into the position.
“He’s probably one of the unique ones, he’s an outstanding manager, world-class. He will go down as one of the best, but when you do that at one club for so long that is the uniqueness of it, you have to rebuild teams all the time within the same context.
“It is totally understandable, my only wish is he does stay out of the game a little while for a couple of reasons, the obvious one about the competitiveness but also it gives me a bit of hope that when I call it a day I am not going to get the urge to come back too quickly.”
