‘What a mess’ – Jamie Carragher in disbelief as Chelsea star Conor Gallagher linked to Tottenham transfer

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has registered his shock at the news Tottenham could sign Conor Gallagher from London rivals Chelsea.

Reports are gathering place surrounding a possible switch to Ange Postecoglou‘s side.

The Blues’ academy graduate is currently captaining his boyhood club with Reece James and Ben Chilwell out injured.

As well as that, he’s arguably been their best player with stats laying bare his all-action midfield performances.

OPTA revealed in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the England international is the only player in Europe’s big five leagues this season with 20+ shots, 20+ chances created, 20+ dribbles completed, 20+ touches in the opposition box, 20+ duels won, 20+ tackles and 20+ interceptions.

But with the January transfer window set to open, Gallagher is potentially going to be the first out of the door at Stamford Bridge.

The club are looking to balance the books after a lavish spending spree which has breached the £1billion mark.

Selling academy stars is a sure-fire way to recoup cash given there was no initial transfer outlay.

But potenitally parting with such a key figure has left many in disbelief.

Carragher posted on X: “Gallagher has been Chelsea’s best player this season along with Cole Palmer, this just shows what a mess the new ownership have made at the club.

“Selling an academy player because it helps with FFP,” he added with an weary-faced emoji.

talkSPORT understands that Tottenham are interested in the 23-year-old who has 11 caps for his nation.

Formal talks, though, are not believed to have been opened.

Sky Sports journalist shares what he’s now heard about Mo Salah leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia

With the January window just a day or so from opening, we are already talking about Mo Salah and his Liverpool future.

The summer months were full of rumours surrounding Salah and his departure. Saudi Arabia heavily pursued the Liverpool star but in the end, Salah remained at Anfield.

That decision has been brilliant for Liverpool. Salah looks back to near his very best form and the Reds now sit top of the Premier League table ahead of Arsenal.

However, with January just days away, talk on Salah is starting again. And Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth has said that when it comes to the summer months, nothing can be counted out, including a potential new deal for the Egyptian.

Mo Salah could yet leave Liverpool in 2024

Speaking for Sky Sports on the situation around Salah, Sheth said that nothing should be ruled out when it comes to Salah’s Liverpool future.

“This is the real deal. They want to bring in some of the best players in the world. Mohamed Salah, they’ve made no secret. It’s no secret they desperately want Salah in the pro league. They want him. Are they going to get him in January? You can almost guarantee there’s no chance of that happening as Liverpool simply won’t entertain that. Come the summer, he’s got 12 months left on his contract,” Sheth said.

“That’s where it will come to a head. Whether the position of Liverpool, what happens this season, what Mohamed Salah wants to do. What kind of talks they’ll have over a new contract. It will have to come to a head because Liverpool won’t want to lose him for nothing. There’s nothing to say that he won’t sign a new deal at Liverpool. We don’t know what’s going to happen. What we do know is that Saudi Arabia do want Mo Salah.”

Salah signing new contract would be huge

It would be absolutely enormous whichever way this one ends up going.

From the Saudi side of things, if they managed to get Salah involved they’d be getting the most popular footballer in the region to sign and it would massively boost their league.

For Liverpool, keeping Salah for a few more years would be simply massive. Despite him being past 30 now, Salah remains absolutely essential for the Reds and his form this season has shown how good he is.

Salah will comfortably go down as one of Liverpool’s best ever players.

And if he can go on for a few more years and keep driving the standards at Anfield, then the Reds fans will be delighted.

‘I was born and raised in Manchester but started crying when Liverpool wanted me’

His birthplace is one of Liverpool’s fiercest rivals, yet one former prodigy chose to ignore the partisanship and turn out for the Merseysiders at Anfield

Most football fans born in Manchester are mostly attributed red for United or blue for City.

However, one former prodigy chose to ignore both of the city’s Premier League giants when Liverpool came calling. Nathan Eccleston was one of the few players to relish his time playing under Roy Hodgson at Anfield.

During the former England manager’s doomed seven month spell at Liverpool, Eccleston was given many chances to shine under Hodgson. However, while the now 33-year-old appreciates every opportunity he was given, his fondest memory was the day he signed for the club.

“As you can imagine, being a 15-year-old lad from Manchester, when Liverpool are the ones that are calling you it comes as a bit of a surprise initially,” Eccleston said to the Liverpool Echo. “Then the overwhelming feeling of Liverpool being interested in me and wanting me to come down and trial hit – I literally just started crying.

“I knew what a great opportunity it could be for a lad like myself to go and present my skills to a club like Liverpool. That summer Liverpool had just won the Champions League, and whether you were a die-hard Liverpool fan or not, everyone in the world of football was a Liverpool fan that night because of how historic Istanbul was.”
