Barcelona could move for Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara in the January transfer window, as per report from Sport.
Thiago hasn’t played a single minute for the Reds this season due to injury and he was linked with a move away from the club in the summer. Turkish clubs showed interest in signing the 32-year-old but Jurgen Klopp decided to keep him.
The Spaniard has been linked with a move back to his old club in recent months and there is a chance that Barcelona could reignite their interest in signing him in January.
Thiago has a contract at Anfield until 2024, and Liverpool are unlikely to offer him a new deal. Barcelona want Thiago to replace Gavi who has been ruled out for the rest of the season after tearing his ACL with Spain during the international break.
Should Liverpool sell him?
Thiago was expected to take Liverpool to a new height, but that hasn’t happened. He has proved his quality and class, with Klopp hailing him as an “outstanding” player last season.
His experience could become valuable for the club as they look to mount a serious challenge for the title. At the same time, Thiago could also look to return to Barcelona, and January could be an ideal time for that to happen
Liverpool’s midfield is well-equipped, and as such, they won’t mind losing Thiago at all. He has spent the majority of his time on the treatment table, and there are still doubts that he can regain his best form after such a long absence.
If Thiago recovers quickly from his injury, it makes sense for the club to sell him in the January transfer window.
