Liverpool’s team has been confirmed ahead of this evening’s Carabao Cup quarter-final against West Ham at Anfield.

With injuries piling up, Jürgen Klopp will have had a tough time trying to rotate his squad. Ryan Gravenberch was the latest player to pull up injured at the weekend, although scans have suggested it is not a serious issue for the midfielder.

Alexis Mac Allister remains out though, along with Diogo Jota, Andy Robertson, Thiago Alcântara, Stefan Bajčetić, Joël Matip and Ben Doak. Despite the increasing injury list, Klopp has made six changes this evening.

Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are among the players to make way from Sunday’s goalless draw as they’re named on the bench. Harvey Elliott starts on the right of the front three, while Joe Gomez is at right-back.

Cody Gakpo is preferred to Luis Díaz, while Curtis Jones starts in place of Gravenberch. Jarell Quansah comes in for Ibrahima Konaté, while Caoimhín Kelleher claims his usual spot in the cup.

Confirmed Liverpool team vs West Ham: Kelleher; Gomez, Quansah, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Endō, Szoboszlai, Jones; Elliott, Núñez, Gakpo

The Reds will be looking to put a disappointing performance against Manchester United on Sunday firmly behind them as they get an instant chance to bounce back from that goalless draw. With Arsenal coming up this weekend, it’s a great chance to build some momentum as well.

Liverpool already knows its possible opponents in the semi-finals, with Fulham, Chelsea and Championship side Middlesbrough having come through their quarter-finals last night, and the Reds will be aiming to join them this evening. These are the teams that some of our Liverpool.com writers would have selected.

Matt Addison – Changes, but Liverpool needs to win

This is a massive game. Liverpool has a real chance to go all the way in the Carabao Cup with both Manchester City and Arsenal already having been knocked out. But West Ham will be a challenge.

Alisson Becker should remain in goal but there will need to be a few alterations elsewhere. Joe Gomez could probably do with coming in for Kostas Tsimikas and Ibrahima Konaté but there is only one of him. I’d edge towards moving Konaté to the bench. He can come on after an hour for Tsimikas and Gomez can move to left-back then.

In midfield, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones can come in. Elliott deserves to start and Ryan Gravenberch is injured. With Alexis Mac Allister still missing, Wataru Endō might just have to go again. Cody Gakpo can come into the attack in place of Luis Díaz, with either the Dutchman or Darwin Núñez playing off the left — I’m happy either way.

My starting XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Elliott, Endō, Jones; Salah, Núñez, Gakpo

Predicted scoreline: 2-1 to Liverpool.

One thing to watch:Can any of the Liverpool forwards score and kickstart a run of form?

James Findlater – Time for Trent Alexander-Arnold experiment

I don’t think Jürgen Klopp will go with his strongest team this evening, but I also don’t think we can expect sweeping changes. This is a great opportunity for Liverpool to get some silverware early after last season’s disappointment.

With that in mind, I expect Caoimhín Kelleher to take his usual place in goal for the cup. The rest of the team though poses a tricky dilemma, especially with some of the injuries knocking about.

I also think Ibrahima Konaté should be given a rest, although I would bring Jarell Quansah into the side alongside Virgil van Dijk. Joe Gomez also comes in, with a slight tweak in midfield.

I’m going with Trent Alexander-Arnold to play in the number six role, with Gomez at right-back. That does carry a slight danger of limiting options if things aren’t going to plan, but it seems like a decent time to give it a go, especially since Alexander-Arnold has probably been Liverpool’s most influential player recently.

Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott come in alongside him in midfield, while Cody Gakpo replaces Darwin Núñez up front. There is an argument to play the Uruguayan in order to try and find some form, but I think he needs to be taken out of the limelight at this point.
