‘Really pleased’: Pep Guardiola says he’s been thrilled by rarely-seen Man City gem
Pep Guardiola has praised Manchester City midfielder Oscar Bobb for his evolution at the club.
Following on from last weekend’s 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford, the Citizens are back in action this afternoon as Bournemouth travel up to the Etihad Stadium for their latest Premier League clash.
Looking ahead to the game, the City manager has shared his thoughts on one particular figure in his squad who may be looking to make a rare appearance on this occasion.
Guardiola praises Bobb
Speaking in his latest press conference ahead of today’s match Guardiola had this to say about Bobb.
He said: “I see him every day in training and we’re really pleased. No doubts. At the end, the minutes I’ll give to him, his performance will dictate his own future.
But in my perspective, I’m really, really, really pleased since day one what he’s done.”
The 20-year-old joined City’s youth ranks back in 2019 and has since gone on to make 114 youth appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals and delivering 33 assists along the way.
This season has seen Bobb make five senior appearances for Guardiola’s side, the latest of which saw him play through the second half of City’s 2-1 defeat at Wolves.
Even though the youngster hasn’t been getting regular minutes in the team so far in this campaign, it’s positive to hear that Guardiola has been impressed with the Norwegian and what he’s done at the club since his arrival.
Looking beyond today’s league match against Bournemouth, City are back in Champions League action as they welcome Young Boys to the Etihad on Tuesday, which will make it interesting to see whether the Spaniard decides to give BobbO a substantial amount of minutes in both games to once again show what he can do.
Moving forward, if the youngster can continue to impress his manager and make the most of any opportunity that comes his way in terms of playing time, he could well end up being a big bright spark in the team and increase the club’s reputation of being able to promote players from their youth ranks to the first team.
