Vincent Kompany makes ‘dangerous’ Liverpool claim and responds to Jürgen Klopp VAR frustration
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp was left baffled by the decision to disallow Harvey Elliott’s goal against Burnley. Vincent Kompany replied and praised the Reds.
Burnley manager Vincent Kompany claimed that his side was a ‘danger’ to Liverpool during his 2-0 defeat in the Premier League on Tuesday. But the Clarets were only let off by poor finishing and decision-making from the Reds in the final third.
“We were a little too open in the first half,” the Burnley boss told Amazon Prime Video after the final whistle. “We were still dangerous in transition opportunities but we just didn’t find the final ball or make the right decision.
“At times, we were in numbers counter-attacking. The difference is how they scored the goal, we weren’t able to do the same thing. We kept being dangerous and we had a chance. If that goes in then it is 1-1 but unfortunately, the game opens up and they are so good in those moments.”
Kompany was also asked about the disallowed Harvey Elliott goal. Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp was unhappy that an offside was called because Mohamed Salah had been pushed into the line of the goalkeeper, who would have been unlikely to save the shot anyway. Amazon presenter Dan Walker asked Kompany for his take.
“Are you asking me to be non-biased?” the former Manchester City captain responded. “It is a bigger picture discussion for me. We have had a lot of conversations where in these moments, things have gone against us.
“I understand Jürgen’s opinion and position but from my perspective, how many times I’ve been here saying that it cost us points, they got the win. We have to move on to the next game.”
Klopp has expressed his frustration at the use of VAR. The German explained that only someone who had not played football before could rule out a goal in that manner. But the assistant referee and the VAR can only go by the rules of the game. While it might have felt harsh or unfortunate, by the letter of the law, Salah was in an offside position and in the line of sight of James Trafford.
Liverpool.com says: While Elliott was unfortunate with his disallowed goal, the other disallowed goal for Cody Gakpo was the really controversial one. Paul Tierney gave a foul but even Charlie Taylor, the man on the end of the supposed infringement, didn’t appear to believe that he had been tugged or clipped. If Liverpool should have complaints about either situation, it should be that one.

However, in the end, they opted to lure Japanese international, Wataru Endo, from Stuttgart to replace Fabinho at Anfield.

The Merseysiders are still interested in signing Palhinha and as per Football Insider, a fee worth £50m-£60m will be needed to get his signing done next month.
He was close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer for £50m-£60m and the news source have mentioned that the Cottagers want the same fee to offload their prized asset in winter.
Fabinho was one of the best No.6s in the world during his time with the Reds. A top quality play breaker with exceptional passing skills.
Endo has been a decent signing for Klopp but unfortunately, as compared to the Brazilian, he is neither a better tackler, nor a passer.
In such a scenario, a proven quality DM in the form of Joao Palhinha is linked and he has been a hit in England with Fulham.
Last season, the Portuguese international made the highest number of tackles in the Premier League and is a key member of Marco Silva’s squad.
It will be fair to say the asking fee of £50m-£60m is high considering the fact that Palhinha will turn 29 in July next year.
