UPDATE: “What happened, happened” – Tottenham player on Manchester City snub and their failure to rate him adequately

Tottenham Hotspur will host Manchester City in the FA Cup later today.

Ahead of this tie, AS had a chat with Tottenham star Pedro Porro, who had a spell with the Citizens earlier in his career.

Manchester City signed the right-back from Girona in 2019, before selling him to Sporting CP in 2022.

Pep Guardiola didn’t give him opportunities at the Etihad and instead allowed him to go out on loan to Real Valladolid and Sporting, who then made his stay permanent.

The fullback has said he’ll approach Tottenham’s upcoming FA Cup clash with “great enthusiasm”. He was then asked if the fixture against Manchester City is special due to his past connection.

Responding to that, he said: “However you want to look at it. They signed me from Girona and that love for trusting me at that moment, even if I didn’t fit into their plans later, does make it a little special for me. Our paths separated, I wish them the best and me to continue with my life.”

When the newspaper further quizzed the Spain international if he regrets having joined the treble winners, Porro explained: “No. At that moment what happened, happened, and as a result of that I’m the player I am today. If they saw that I was not ready for the Premier League at that time, I respect their decision.”

The current Tottenham player has revealed that he never had discussions with Guardiola when he was at Manchester City.

“That’s how it is. I don’t know why. Maybe because I was going out on loan and we didn’t meet,” the Spaniard added.

“But surely, if we had, we would have talked. For example, in the last home game I didn’t have any problems. I was talking to Nunes and Pep passed by. We had a normal conversation.”

Spurs signed Porro from Sporting last January and he’s been one of the key players under Ange Postecoglou this season. The right-back has managed a goal and eight assists from 21 games.
