Update news: Liverpool is one of four clubs interested in the £108k-per-week dynamo described as ‘complete’ by Ancelotti.

According to Italian media, Liverpool are interested in a Serie A title winner who once received glowing praise from Carlo Ancelotti.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via FC Inter News), the Reds have joined Juventus, Inter Milan, and West Ham in their pursuit of Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, whose contract with the club expires next June.

Mauro Meluso, the Azzurri’s sporting director, told DAZN (via Corriere dello Sport) that the 29-year-old ‘has expressed to us several times his desire to remain in Naples,’ and that the hierarchy at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona is ‘working to ensure’ that his contract is renewed.

Zielinski is a seasoned professional with over 500 senior appearances at club and international levels, nearly 350 of which have come for Napoli (Transfermarkt).

His former manager Ancelotti once described him as a “complete midfielder” with “something special” pace (Radio Anch’io Sport, via Football Italia), though that particular asset may not be as prominent as it was when the Real Madrid manager made those remarks in January 2021.

The 29-year-old has contributed six goals in 13 games this season (Transfermarkt), but whether Liverpool would want to bring in a player of that age who is already earning more than £108,000 per week (Capology) is debatable, even if he is available on a free transfer next summer.

It remains to be seen whether other news outlets will corroborate the reports on Zielinski, so for the time being, we’d take these links with a grain of salt unless they resurface more frequently.
