After Tottenham defeated Liverpool 2-1, Alexis Mac Allister didn’t hold back on Cristian Romero’s post.
The Argentina teammates were involved in an online disagreement following the controversial Premier League clash between Tottenham and Liverpool.
Following Saturday’s contentious Premier League match between Tottenham and Liverpool, Argentina teammates Alexis Mac Allister and Cristian Romero engaged in an online argument.
Joel Matip’s stunning late own goal gave Spurs a 2-1 victory, yet that only represents a very small portion of the total picture.
After Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota received red cards either side of halftime, Liverpool was down to nine men.
The fact that Jurgen Klopp and his team had a perfectly excellent goal disallowed as a result of a significant VAR blunder was even more infuriating.
After beating Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario with a fantastic strike from a tight angle in the first half, Luis Diaz felt he had given 10-man Liverpool the lead.
However, the goal was overturned by an unusually swift VAR review.
After images showed that Diaz was unmistakably onside when the ball was played, it was later determined that “significant human error” was at fault.
Over on X (formerly known as Twitter), VAR expert Dale Johnson has since revealed the hapless series of events which culminated in Diaz’s goal being incorrectly disallowed.
Arguably the most embarrassing VAR incident for Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) since its introduction into the Premier League during the 2019-20 season, serious questions are now being asked about the current implementation of the divisive technology.
“We will not get points for it, so it doesn’t help,” Klopp told reporters after being told of PGMOL’s statement.
“I think what everyone wants is, not everybody expects 100% right decisions on field, but I think we all thought when VAR comes in, it might make things easier.”
Following their first Premier League loss of the year, Liverpool is now fourth in the standings, one point behind Tottenham and Arsenal and two points behind Manchester City, who are currently in first place.
While we’ll never know what would have happened if Diaz’s goal had stood, it’s obvious that the match’s outcome was altered by the important VAR error.

Romero, a defender for Tottenham, shared a number of pictures on Instagram after the game with the description, “This team has incredible enthusiasm, great heart.
always together, like this. Mac Allister, a fellow World Cup winner, was forthright in his remarks.
The number 10 for Liverpool, who moved to Anfield from Brighton in a £35 million transfer in June, answered, “Normal when you have 12 players.” Ouch. Then Romero said, “Cry at home.”
Although screenshots were collected and posted to a number of social media sites, including X and Reddit, the comments now seem to have been erased.
The next time they team up for Argentina, who later this month play Paraguay and Peru in World Cup qualification, it might be a little difficult.
Before the upcoming international break, Mac Allister and his Liverpool colleagues play Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League and Brighton in the Premier League.
Next weekend, Spurs will visit Luton Town in an effort to maintain their strong start to the current season under Ange Postecoglou.
