January signing admits he actually blanked Spurs for weeks before joining them
Timo Werner has admitted that he was initially sceptical about the idea of moving to Tottenham Hotspur when the club first contacted him a few weeks ahead of the transfer window but explained that he later changed his mind as he was quite attracted by the project.
These days, most transfers are preceded by weeks if not months of heavy speculation, with each detail of the negotiations being leaked.
However, that was not the case with Werner’s move to Spurs, with the transfer coming almost out of the blue and catching many people by surprise, which suggests that the deal was agreed relatively swiftly.
The German international has made a solid start to his time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, having started all five matches so far, registering two assists (Transfermarkt).
It was reported by SportBILD (via Sport Witness) a couple of days ago that RB Leipzig are of the belief Spurs are happy with the way the 27-year-old has performed so far, with the German side expecting the Premier League club to activate the €20m (£17m) option to buy in the summer.

“The more the interest grew and the more often Tottenham contacted my agents, it became so interesting that in the end, I couldn’t say ‘no’ anymore.”
Spurs Web Opinion
The fact that Werner fell out of favour at Leipzig certainly played a factor, with the forward keen to win back his place in the German national side ahead of the Euros.
His conversation with Postecoglou regarding how he would fit in at Tottenham would have probably convinced the former Chelsea man to greenlight the transfer.
