Liverpool told Dominik Szoboszlai is the reason they are ‘eyeing the title’ ahead of Man City clash
Former Manchester City Richard Dunne is the latest to speak his admiration of Liverpool summer signing Dominik Szoboszlai
Former Manchester City captain Richard Dunne says that Dominik Szoboszlai’s ‘brilliant’ impact since his summer arrival is the reason Liverpool go to the Etihad Stadium in the hunt for the Premier League title.
The Reds have restored the recent order of things in the English top-flight, albeit narrowly. Heading into Saturday’s 12:30pm showdown they sit second, one point behind Pep Guardiola’s men, and trailing both are Arsenal – level on points with Liverpool though lacking goal difference – and Tottenham Hotspur.
It comes after a drop off in intensity last season – one that was particularly visible amongst the worn out midfield options at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal.
This issue was addressed in the transfer market and one addition that has spearheaded the Anfield revolution this term is £60m signing Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
“He has been absolutely brilliant,” Dunne told LiveScore Bet as he analysed his former club’s next opposition. “He’s one of those players that people tune in to watch for his energy, quality and ability to score a cracker from distance.
“The one worry is whether he can maintain his intensity over the course of a whole season, but what an impact he’s made – and he’s probably changed Liverpool’s outlook on the campaign.
“Instead of just thinking about getting back in the Champions League, they’re eyeing the title and that’s thanks in part to Szoboszlai.
“He’s given belief back to the fans and the players, he’s brought the best out of Van Dijk and given everyone that enthusiasm which was perhaps missing last season.”
Prior to the season, especially with their business incomplete come the opening game against Chelsea, it was unknown how far Liverpool would be able to take their challenge for the Premier League.
Now, about to play their thirteenth of a 38-game campaign, they have the opportunity to set the pace once again.
Their 23-year-old was back amongst his club team-mates after captaining his country to Euro 2024 qualification during the recent break, as Klopp got a quadruple boost of returnees from various injury problems.

John Barnes has said that Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai would not have joined Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal or Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
The Liverpool legend also gave his verdict on Szoboszlai, who joined the Reds in the summer transfer window.
So, what has John Barnes said about Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and Arsenal? Let’s take a look.
What’s the story?
Well, John Barnes has been raving about Dominik Szoboszlai. The Liverpool legend has been hugely impressed by what he has seen of the midfielder so far.
Barnes has said that he does not think that Szoboszlai would have suited the way Arsenal and Manchester City play their football.
The pundit actually does not think that the 23-year-old would have made the move to Arsenal or City.
Liverpool signed Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2023 for £60 million (Sky Sports) and has been one of the best players this season.
The 23-year-old has scored one goal and given two assists in 12 Premier League matches for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.
Barnes told talkSPORT: “Szoboszlai has been incredible. I’d kind of heard about him before, but I’ve never seen him and that’s how good the scouting is, because Liverpool sign players who will suit the way Liverpool play.
“I don’t think he’d suit Man City or Arsenal, and he probably wouldn’t go there! But when he came, having never heard of him, from the first time I saw him, he was just incredible, he could play anywhere.”
Liverpool midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai would have been successful at Arsenal
In my opinion, Dominik Szoboszlai would have been a success at Arsenal. I believe that the Liverpool midfielder would have suited the Gunners.
If Arsenal had made a big bid, then they would have been able to convince the Hungary international to make the move to the Emirates Stadium.
After all, Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are a global brand. The Gunners almost won the Premier League title last season.
Szoboszlai, 23, is a very good attacking midfielder, and I believe that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta would have found a place for him in the starting lineup.
Arteta is desperately trying to get Kai Havertz into the Arsenal starting lineup. And, it is not working at all. Szoboszlai could have been a better signing.
