It’s understood they arrived back in London on Friday following a three-day stay in the Gulf state.

Some people have even questioned the two officials’ ethics, claiming that working as contractors in a nation that practically owns one of the Premier League clubs (Manchester City) presents a conflict of interest.

In any event, their actions won’t do anything to increase public confidence in authorities or calm the current VAR controversy.

Later, it was acknowledged that it was a grave error to disallow Diaz’s goal, which came at 0-0 and soon after Curtis Jones had been dismissed.

Seconds before he put the ball past Spurs goalie Guglielmo Vicario, the Colombian forward was wrongly called offside, but the ensuing VAR review did not repair the error.

England and Cook informed referee Simon Hooper that his call was “correct” after incorrectly believing that Diaz’s goal had been awarded.

Minutes before Tottenham’s Son Heung-min scored the game-winning goal, a communication error prevented Liverpool from scoring the first goal.
