Unbelievable: Boudewijn Zenden renders a decision regarding the succession of former Liverpool teammate over Jurgen Klopp.

This season, Xabi Alonso is dominating the Bundesliga for Bayer Leverkusen.

According to Boudewijn Zenden, Xabi Alonso, a former teammate at Liverpool, is not prepared to replace Jurgen Klopp.

While no one is implying that he will be going anytime soon, the Anfield management will eventually have to look past the German charmer. Only last year did Klopp secure a contract deal that will keep him at Liverpool through 2026.

When the 56-year-old’s historic reign ends, a who’s who of football greats will be vying for his place. Few, including current Bayer Leverkusen manager Alonso, who was formerly a Red, are thought to be more qualified to continue the mantle.

After ten league games this season, the Spaniard’s team is undefeated and has won nine of them, making them unexpected favorites to win the Bundesliga. A flawless start to the campaign is marred only by a 2-2 draw away to Bayern Munich.

Alonso, who began by mentoring Real Madrid’s minor teams, is making an impression in his first position as a professional manager. Zenden, the 41-year-old’s starting partner in the 2007 Champions League final, urges him to establish his value before accepting the Liverpool position.

He told WSM Casino, “I understand why people are saying Xabi could be the solution when Klopp leaves. I played with him at Liverpool.” “Jurgen is here and doing a great job right now.”

“There’s no doubt that Alonso is doing great things at Bayern Leverkusen – who aren’t a small team! To compete with the likes of (Borussia) Dortmund and Bayern (Munich) isn’t easy, but he’s doing really well and he has a certain style of play and his own ideas of how to play.

“He likes to play a possession-based game and create things from there. It’s offensive and it’s caught the eye of a lot of people. We have to ask if Liverpool is the right fit for him at the moment, but Xabi is in the right place.

“I don’t think moving to Liverpool will happen on the back of one successful year. He has to prove himself over the next few years and keep the momentum going.”
