Teun Koopmeiners, a talented midfielder for Atalanta, is wanted by a number of teams, including Liverpool, but in order to have a chance, they will need to overcome Newcastle United’s financial might.

A bid of €70 million (£60 million) for the 25-year-old would be approved by the Reds, according to Tutto Atalanta.

Koopmeiners is reportedly also coveted by Manchester United and Newcastle United.

A recent report from Tuttomercato warned Liverpool of interest from the Magpies, in particular, with Eddie Howe’s side reportedly already in contact with Atalanta after scouting him heavily in the last few weeks.

Speaking to Radio Rossonera, former Ajax and Napoli star, Ruud Krol, described Koppmeiners as a “complete footballer” and the Dutchman is certainly a player that could suit Jurgen Klopp’s squad.

The German manager needs a defensive midfielder and Koopmeiners has been on Liverpool’s radar for a couple of years – it’s clear to see why.

Blessed with a wonderful left-foot, Koopmeiners’ addition to the Liverpool midfield would increase its balance, assuming Jurgen Klopp is unable to sign Andre in January.

He ranks in the 88th percentile for dribblers tackled, according to Fbref, but is greatest strengths are in possession of the ball with his technique simply exquisite.

If Andre does not join Liverpool, Koopmeiners could be a great Plan B although his price tag means it will be difficult to beat Man Utd and Newcastle to his signature.

However, with his Atalanta contract set to expire in 2025, it will be difficult for the Serie A outfit to hold out on their €70 million (£60m) valuation.
