Tottenham could be set for a cash boost from a potential January transfer to Lazio for former player Jack Clarke. Joining Spurs from Leeds United in the summer of 2019, the winger’s transfer to N17 never worked out and he left for Sunderland on a permanent basis in July 2022.

Initially impressing at the Stadium of Light on a loan deal, the 23-year-old has continued to be a big player for the Black Cats over the past two seasons. Having contributed with 11 goals and 14 assists in 50 appearances last season as Sunderland made a late dash for the Championship play-offs, the attacker has already bettered his tally for goals this term after so far contributing 13 from 31 appearances in all competitions.

Clarke’s outstanding performances have seen him come to the attention of a number of clubs, including West Ham and Crystal Palace, this month, with Italian giants Lazio the latest side to be interested in striking a deal for the York-born player. football.london understands that Lazio have initiated contact to sign the player from Sunderland prior to Thursday’s transfer deadline in a deal that could be worth £10million-£15million.

Tottenham will benefit from any sale as football.london understands that while the north London club only sold him for around £750,000 not including add-ons back in 2022, they did insert a sell-on clause of 25% in the deal. Given what the player brings to the team as well as the sell-on clause that will see Tottenham earn 25% of any transfer for Clarke, the Championship club will want to bring in as much money as possible for their star man.

Michael Beale’s team are currently outside the play-off positions on goal difference and a possible exit for Clarke over the coming days could very well derail their promotion bid. A move to Lazio would be incredibly appealing for the player, however.

The Rome-based club are three points off Atalanta in fourth in Serie A after 20 games of the season and the Biancocelesti have Champions League football to look forward to next month. Lazio have been drawn against Bayern Munich in the Round of 16, a game which would see Clarke reunited with former Tottenham teammates Harry Kane and Eric Dier.

For Tottenham, any money from a potential move involving Clarke could be put towards future transfer deals in north London. Signing Timo Werner on loan from RB Leipzig and Radu Dragusin on a permanent deal from Genoa, Spurs appear to have missed out on a move for highly-rated youngster Antonio Nusa with the Club Brugge ace set to join Brentford instead.
