Bayern Munich are eyeing Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey as they aim to add to their English ranks at the Allianz Arena.

The German side have already signed Harry Kane and Eric Dier from Tottenham this season – the latter arriving on loan earlier this month. Bayern are not quite finished there and are in the race for Villa midfielder Ramsey.

That is according to The Athletic, who suggest that the reigning Bundesliga giants admire the 22-year-old. They are not the only ones interested though.

It is also reported that Tottenham are interested in a move for Ramsey. Newcastle were eyeing a swoop this month but Eddie Howe has quashed talk of a deal.

Asked about the Magpies’ interest, Howe replied simply: “Incorrect.” Meanwhile, a deal looks difficult to do for both Bayern Munich and Tottenham, with Villa putting a price tag in excess of £50m on their academy graduate.

The Midlands side could do with a sale to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules come the end of the campaign. However, they want to keep hold of Ramsey, who has become a key player under Unai Emery.

Speaking out about suggestions, he could leave, the Villa boss said: “Jacob Ramsey is a very important player. He grew up in the academy and his progression is clearly getting better. His level is increasing a lot and I want to keep him here with us.

“Of course, he starts taking some movements around him, some teams around the possibility to sign him. Of course, because potentially he is a big, big player in Aston Villa and in England. I want to keep him here 100%.”

The midfielder enjoyed a brilliant breakout campaign during the 2021/22 season and built upon those performances last season. Injury has limited his contributions this term with Ramsey making just six starts in all competitions and scoring just once.

His contract in the Midlands is due to run until 2027 after penning a fresh deal in 2022. Speaking at the time, he said: “It’s a proud moment for me, especially for my family. I’ve been here a long time now, come through the Academy, and to sign for another five years at this club, I’m over the moon.”

Away from Ramsey, Villa could also be tempted to cash in on one of their current first-team stars. Striker Jhon Duran has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Emery’s side are still working to add a new face to their squad. They have already had three bids knocked back for Middlesbrough’s Morgan Rogers – the latest being in the region of £12.5m.

Villa are set to table another bid for the 21-year-old before the deadline, with Emery keen on having Rogers involved for the weekend’s trip to Sheffield United.
