Tottenham in stunning Aston Villa transfer update with Bayern Munich as January approach denied
Latest Tottenham transfer news with Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey the newest name to be linked to Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs
Aston Villa star Jacob Ramsey could dominate headlines in the final days of the January transfer window amid interest from Tottenham, Newcastle and Bayern Munich. The 22-year-old has seen a foot injury plague his 2023/24 campaign but he has recently returned to action with Unai Emery carefully managing his minutes.
Having started the last four Premier League games of 2023, the creative midfielder was a surprising omission from the matchday squad to face Everton at Goodison Park. “At the end of the session he was not feeling very good with some pain in his hamstring,” Emery revealed after the goalless draw.
“We didn’t take a risk with him. He is going to do a test today or tomorrow and we will know if it is an injury or not. Hopefully if he has an injury then I hope it is not a lot.” Despite the unknown availability of Ramsey, the Athletic claim an approach has made to acquire his services this month amid interest from Newcastle, Spurs and Bayern.
In a huge transfer update they wrote: “Newcastle United have made an approach for the 22-year-old as they attempt to bolster Eddie Howe’s side, although unless they manage to achieve a significant sale, he is likely to be beyond reach.”
Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Kieran Trippier have all been linked with an exit from St James’ Park, but Eddie Howe delivered a clear update on their respective futures on Monday. “We hope Miggy will be with us (at Villa). “Callum is 100 per cent committed just like Kieran [Trippier].” When asked about an approach being made for Ramsey, Howe simply said: That is incorrect.”
As for Tottenham, Ange Postecoglou was hoping to make Antonio Nusa his third January arrival after Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin. The plan was to send the talented winger back to Club Brugge on loan for the remainder of the season, but Premier League rivals Brentford now look to have hijacked the deal.
A £30million package was reserved for Nusa but that could now be available for the Lilywhites to use on any potential move for Ramsey. Villa value their academy graduate in excess of £50million which could be enough to to scare interested suitors away from Ramsey.
One potential positive in the corner of Spurs is the fact Villa must raise funds before June 2023 in order to comply with profit and sustainability rules (PSR). However, Chelsea’s interest in Jhon Duran is another route for the Midlands-based club to receive a windfall.
Despite those financial worries, Villa have sent three bids to Middlesbrough in an attempt to sign Morgan Rogers with the latest, said to be worth £15million, being rejected on Monday.
