“The best possible outcome”: The club hopes that the “price goes up” in order to fight for the Manchester United target in a deal.
Ajax will be hoping that several clubs come in for Brian Brobbey in the summer alongside Manchester United, so his price ramps up as it did with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.
That’s according to journalist Mike Verweij, who says Ajax will be hoping of a repeat of what happened with the defender before he ended up at Tottenham.
Van de Ven joined Tottenham in a €40m deal from VfL Wolfsburg in the summer following months of speculation about his future at the German side.
He had impressed in the Bundesliga and earned himself a growing list of admirers as a result, with Liverpool heavily linked and believed to be seriously considering a move before Spurs eventually secured him.
He’s been impressing for the Dutch side this season, with 17 goals and four assists in 27 games so far indicating he is back to his best.
That’s put him on the transfer radar once again and Manchester United are believed to be keen, with numerous reports indicating they could make a move and the player even being forced to answer questions on the matter.
A move is not expected to happen before the end of this month, but Verweij believes Manchester United may end up in a tussle, something Ajax would be hoping for.
“The best thing that can happen to Ajax is that several English top clubs come,” he said.
“That happened with Micky van de Ven, do you know him? With Van de Ven, Liverpool and Spurs suddenly started showing interest, so then the price goes up.
“Then you can sit back like Kelvin de Lang, who is now doing the transfers at Ajax. Then the price will go up automatically. I think he will really yield a lot.”

“A wonderful story” – Brighton star delighted with current situation despite going through ‘difficult period’
Brighton and Hove Albion star Jan Paul van Hecke has labelled his time at the club as “a wonderful story” so far, despite earlier frustrations at the club.
The defender has been speaking to Omroep Zeeland in his homeland about his situation with the Seagulls as he continues to rise up the ranks at the club.
The centre-back has been with Brighton since joining them from NAC Breda in 2020 and initially spent his first two years are the club out on loan, first with Heerenveen and then Blackburn Rovers.
He was brought back into the Brighton squad in 2022 and played a bit-part role in the 2022/23 season under Graham Potter and then Roberto de Zerbi.
He appears to be following a clear path laid out for him by Brighton, something he is delighted with, having previously been frustrated by a lack of opportunities.
“When I arrived, Brighton had mapped out a path on how they envisioned me,” he said.
“A lot of clubs do it that way, the only difference is that Brighton actually had examples of players where it was successful.
“That was a difficult period. I had the feeling that I was ready, but I didn’t get the chance to show it.
“I knew: if I ever play, I have to prove myself immediately. All in all, it has become a wonderful story.
“The club always manages to go one step higher and so do I. I think it can continue like this for a while.
“Last season when I didn’t play much, I wasn’t always the happiest at home. Fortunately, now things are very different for my girlfriend.”
