Liverpool takes on Chelsea in the Premier League, with one player set to be missing for Jürgen Klopp as two return, but remain doubtful after recent
injuries.

Liverpool’s Premier League campaign is set to get underway on Sunday as the Reds begin their quest with a difficult trip to Stamford Bridge to take
on Chelsea.
Games against the Blues have become frustrating of late. Since Liverpool edged past them in both 2021/22 cup games on penalties, two draws last
season were consistent with an overall inconsistent campaign.
Four 0-0 draws in a row, including two bouts of extra time, means neither side has scored in 420 minutes of football. Strong performances from
Liverpool’s attacking players in pre-season show that streak could finally be broken, with the Reds benefitting from a full clean bill of health in terms
of forward options.
Positive news this week has seen two key players return to training for Liverpool. Thiago Alcântara and Stefan Bajčetić, who have both been battling
injury problems, remain doubts for this one as they work towards match fitness, but Jürgen Klopp can feel optimistic about them being back among
the squad, with the two Spaniards likely to be crucial for the team this season.
Tyler Morton is set to remain out of senior team action for some time as he continues to recover from a broken foot, sustained in April during his loan
spell with Blackburn Rovers.
With Premier League 2 action not set to begin until Monday, Klopp also has a number of young players to choose from before deciding which will
remain predominantly with the U23s. Ben Doak has been one of the standout stars from pre-season, while Jarell Quansah also looks to be one for the
future.

It would be fair to suggest that Bobby Clark has the best chance of featuring from the Reds prospects, though, with the senior squad still two signings
short in midfield. Fabinho is the more crucial one still to replace as Liverpool navigates the opening day of the campaign without a senior number six
midfielder.

Roméo Lavia signed in dream Liverpool squad as four key Jürgen Klopp transfer edges clear
Liverpool could turn its attentions back to Roméo Lavia as Moisés Caicedo looks to have snubbed four clear advantages the Reds hold over Chelsea.
Premier League season.
Before then though, it looks as though the Moisés Caicedo saga could come to a conclusion, although not in the way Liverpool fans would have hoped.
According to the Telegraph, Chelsea is on the brink of completing the signing of the Brighton midfielder, with the Blues looking to finalize a $146m
(£115m/€133m) deal as they hijack the $140m (£110m/€127m) agreement Liverpool had in place just a couple of days earlier. The news will come as
a blow to the Reds, who looked as though they had their new number six wrapped up, but now look set to be on the hunt again for a new option.
There is one obvious player they could turn to, although Chelsea could also beat them to that punch. Liverpool though will hope the obvious
advantages it holds over the Blues will eventually see its efforts pay off.
Here are the two Liverpool.com stories from today that you shouldn’t miss, with Roméo Lavia also high up on the agenda.
Roméo Lavia could be in dream Liverpool squad
The Moisés Caicedo saga looks like it’s about to reach its end, with Liverpool ultimately missing out on the Brighton midfielder. But, regardless of any
late, late drama around his move to Chelsea, the Reds still had more work to do beyond the 21-year-old.
In an ideal world, Jürgen Klopp would have been able to bring in Caicedo, plus another midfielder and a new defender to add to his ranks. Nothing
in that regard, as the Liverpool boss still needs to make three more signings this summer.
And he may well have to act quickly in order to secure the next best option, which would appear to be Roméo Lavia. Chelsea is also interested in the
Southampton midfielder, although with Caicedo seemingly out of the picture, it may free up funds for Liverpool to make a decisive move.
Matt Addison took a look at what Liverpool’s dream squad could look like here.
Liverpool has four key advantages over Chelsea
The Caicedo saga has been full of twists and turns, and no doubt it will add some spice to tomorrow’s opening fixture at Stamford Bridge.
It’s becoming increasingly likely that the Ecuador international might be there to watch on as a newly-signed Chelsea player, and given they’ve been
put through the ringer over the past couple of days, Liverpool fans will no doubt love nothing more than to beat the Blues on their own patch and
show Caicedo what he might be missing.
And, as Adam Brown points out, he’ll be missing a lot by snubbing a move to Anfield. The aforementioned supporters, the stability of the club,
European football and, of course, Jürgen Klopp perfectly demonstrate the advantages Liverpool holds over Chelsea.
