Speaking on ESPN, the pundit and former Anfield player slammed Klopp for going after the Premier League again ahead of Liverpool’s match against Manchester City on Saturday.
Nicol stated, “Owners need to turn around and say’shut it, stop complaining’ to Jurgen Klopp.” If they know that and have accepted it, tell him to shut up and stop blabbing.”
With Klopp in the midst of a Liverpool rebuild, keeping everyone fit and firing will be critical if the German manager is to lead the Merseyside giants back to the Premier League summit.
However, kick-off times appear to be playing a role, with Liverpool now the first Premier League matchday following the international break.
While it is understandable why the change was made, kick-off times have been an issue for Liverpool, and Klopp is within his rights to complain about them.
Klopp has every right to be upset about Liverpool’s Premier League kick-off times.
There is simply too much football being played for Premier League teams competing in Europe, with Klopp’s side competing in four competitions heading into 2024.
The Reds are arguably still feeling the effects of the 2021/22 season, when Liverpool played every possible game as Klopp’s side fell just short of the quadruple dream.
And the former Borussia Dortmund coach has every right to be upset about when some of Liverpool’s Premier League games are scheduled to begin, particularly so soon after an international break.
Klopp has been a leading voice in the way top-flight English games are planned, and while it may not result in change, having a figure as powerful as the Liverpool manager speak about it is significant.
