Compared to the majority of other NBA teams, the Los Angeles Lakers have extremely high expectations. For a long time, the team and its supporters have believed that a season is a failure if it doesn’t conclude with a championship.
Therefore, it makes sense that players like Shaquille O’Neal, Magic Johnson, Kobe Bryant, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who are regarded as Lakers icons, all contributed to Los Angeles’ championship victories.
LeBron James, a forward for the Lakers, has also won a championship with the franchise, who defeated the Miami Heat in the 2020 NBA Finals. However, Ron Harper, who played with both Michael Jordan and O’Neal in the past, refuted the idea that James is a Lakers icon and appeared to undermine his “bubble” ring.
Nevertheless, Los Angeles won all but five of their 21 playoff games, and the Lakers dominated the postseason. Los Angeles would not have easily won their 17th championship in team history if James hadn’t been the catalyst for the Lakers’ offensive success.
James averaged 27.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 8.8 assists, 1.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game while playing in all 21 of the Lakers’ games. Additionally, he made 37.0 percent of his 3-point tries and 56.0 percent of his field goals.
