Sad News: Lorenzo Musetti reveals the origin of his strange tattoo and how he has been affected by it Due to…
After the shocking elimination of Jannik Sinner against Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships, Italian tennis has redeemed thanks to a great Lorenzo Musetti. The young Italian – thanks also to a not impossible draw (facilitated by the eliminations of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev and Alexander Zverev) – reached his first semi-final in a Grand Slam tournament.
Lorenzo has expressed a great tennis on grass and has eliminated the American Taylor Fritz in five sets in the quarterfinals, playing a wonderful tennis especially in the decisive moment of the match. Musetti has always been considered a player with enormous talent, but now he seems to have finally found the right continuity to aim for the most important titles.
Musetti will face Nole Djokovic
The Italian will have to beat the seven-time champion Novak Djokovic to reach his first Grand Slam final, a feat that would allow him to make history in the sport. The Serbian is not in top form due to knee surgery last month, but he is improving with the passing of the days and has been able to benefit from the withdrawal of Alex de Minaur in the quarters.
Musetti and Djokovic have already faced each other six times, with five victories for the Serbian. Their last match was at the 2024 French Open, when Nole prevailed in five sets after recovering a two-set-to-one disadvantage.
Lorenzo Musetti will do his best to challenge a legend like Novak Djokovic, who seeks his eighth title at Church Road as his great rival Roger Federer. “I think in the past weeks, starting from Stuttgart, I started to feel more continuous on that, on the attitude,” Lorenzo explained. “Even today I have to thank myself for the attitude that I had, especially losing the first set in not, say, a positive way where I didn’t feel my serve really well. I didn’t feel the ball. I was a little bit nervous. Then immediately with a positive attitude I changed all my mindset, and also the feeling with the ball was better. So that’s probably what I have to do in the next round also.”
He also added: “I have to say with Nole, after the match I always finished with a lesson,” he said. “Of course, the last match was really an intense match from both players and a really stressful match. Against him you are probably more stressed because he’s probably the best player ever, or one of the best players ever.”
A strange tattoo
Tennis fans have surely noticed that Lorenzo Musetti has a tattoo on his left arm that portrays the image of an electrocardiogram with a racket in the middle. During a recent interview, the young Italian explained his uncle is a cardiologist and from there the idea of that strange tattoo was born. The racket has the meaning of showing how important tennis is to him, being present in all aspects of his life. The birth of his first child certainly helped Musetti in his growth path, after the many difficulties that had afflicted him last year. The parable of the Italian seemed to have stopped and criticism had led him into a negative spiral that had conditioned his results on the court.
During the press conference after the victory over Fritz, Lorenzo explained how his mentality has changed in recent months: “Before I was ashamed to play badly and I often had a bad attitude, in fact I threw away many matches. I struggled in the early rounds here at the Wimbledon Championships, but I always tried to find new ways to win. That made a difference. Having a child makes you think more. I feel more mature in the court and the results show that I am working well. Today I put it in second place behind the birth of my son, but it is the best day of my life from a sporting point of view.”
The Italian will not start favored against 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, who seems to be growing strongly after suffering in the first rounds. The former world number 1 has expressed excellent tennis against the Danish Holger Rune in the last 16 and wants to raise the trophy on Sunday. In the other semi-final, 2023 Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz and former World No.1 Daniil Medvedev will face each other again, with the Spanish dominant last year in three sets. Musetti is the only player who can play without pressure, an aspect that could help him in the decisive moments. At the same time, Lorenzo has no experience in Grand Slam semifinal.
