Report: Spurs hijack Barcelona’s move for the 17-year-old Swedish youngster

Report: Spurs hijack Barcelona’s move for the 17-year-old Swedish youngster.

Tottenham Hotspur clearly have a firm eye on the future right now, as they continue to scour the market for the best young talent. Now, the club are attempting to swoop in and steal 17-year-old Swedish starlet, Lucas Bergvall, away from Barcelona’s clutches.

While Spurs and Ange Postecoglou are building a squad capable of competing at the very top right now, there has been an increased emphasis on securing some of the most exciting young players across Europe and beyond of late.

The signings of Ashley Phillips and Alejo Veliz last summer are a strong indication of this focus, as is the club’s attempts to sign Antonio Nusa recently.

Spurs on the hunt for Lucas Bergvall

Now, Spurs have identified another teenage target in the form of Lucas Bergvall. According to a report from the Daily Mail, the Swedish wonderkid has been earmarked by Barcelona already, but Tottenham could be ready to spoil the party.

It is revealed Tottenham have “made an enquiry” to Bergvall’s current club, Djurgardens, with a view to arranging to “hijack” Barcelona’s proposed £8.5m move for the 17-year-old.

The young midfielder has caught the eye of several clubs across Europe, including Manchester United, with whom he had a trial three years ago.

Ange Postecoglou discusses whether Radu Dragusin could start against Brentford

Since making the switch from Genoa earlier this month, Radu Dragusin has played just five minutes for Tottenham Hotspur, so is his full debut around the corner? Ange Postecoglou offers some insight into the situation in his latest press conference (via Football.London).

With Spurs desperate to add a new centre-half to their squad this month, Radu Dragusin quickly emerged as their number one target for the role. And, after a protracted negotiation process that was nearly derailed by Bayern Munich, Tottenham got their man.

Dragusin had been expected to provide cover and competition for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven in Ange Postecoglou‘s defence, but it just so happened that the pair both returned to full fitness soon after the Romanian arrived at the club.

Starting on the bench against Manchester United earlier this month, Dragusin was brought on late on as a substitute, getting just five minutes of action. He was then an unused substitute against Manchester City in the recent FA Cup tie.

Will Radu Dragusin start against Brentford?

So, will Dragusin get his big debut tomorrow against Brentford? Ange Postecoglou played down the idea in his latest press conference, insisting winning the game is his only concern.

He said: “I don’t know. What we will try to do is win the games. That is always my focus. It is not about preempting things. We will put out a team tomorrow that we believe can win a game of football.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As long as both Romero and van de Ven are fit, it can only be those two that start the game, to be honest. I would love to see Dragusin get some more minutes and, if the game is under our control, I expect to see him midway through the second half. But, a start is very unlikely, I would say.
