Report: Commanders suffer massive loss as their Key man confirm injury leads to ‘worst possible outcome’

The Washington Commanders (4-2) had their four-game win streak ended with a 30-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 6. Now, they face an additional blow with the reported season-ending injury to one of their top defenders.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, star defensive tackle Jonathan Allen suffered a pectoral injury that may require surgery, potentially sidelining him for the rest of the season. ESPN’s John Keim later confirmed the news, stating that an MRI revealed the worst outcome.

Despite optimism following the game, Allen is now seeking a second opinion. If the injury does end his season, it would be a major setback for Washington, currently leading the NFC East at 4-2.

The Commanders rank 22nd in total defense, allowing 24.2 points per game. After rough starts in Weeks 1 and 3, where they gave up over 30 points, the defense had improved in Weeks 4 and 5 with dominant wins over the Arizona Cardinals and Cleveland Browns. However, in their matchup against Baltimore, they allowed a season-high 484 yards, including 308 passing yards and 176 rushing yards, along with 13 plays that went for 15+ yards.

Allen, who has started all six games this season, played 37 snaps in the loss and recorded two tackles. He is second on the team in quarterback hits (six) and has been a key figure in the defense. A former first-round pick and two-time Pro Bowler, Allen was a leader in quarterback hits last season and remains a crucial part of Washington’s defensive front.

The Commanders’ offense, led by Jayden Daniels, ranks among the best in the league at 29.7 points per game, but losing Allen on defense could significantly hinder their efforts to secure their first winning season since 2016.
