Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai are midfield reinforcements that Liverpool splashed the cash on this summer, but a new
center-back is still needed.
Jurgen Klopp would be wise to sign another top starter so that he can rebalance his starting lineup. Trent Alexander-Arnold’s tactical
change, in which he prioritized midfield work over defending, put a little extra strain on Liverpool’s back line toward the end of last
season.
Given concerns about the long-term prospects of Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, and Nat Phillips, Liverpool may decide to make a significant
change at the back this summer, although it is still unclear how much money they will have to spend there.
Look at the defenders below.
Colwill Levi Goncalo, Aymeric Inacio Laporte
Michael van de Ven
Fabián Medina.
Levi Colwill
20 years old Chelsea
Levi Colwill of Chelsea is without a doubt the ideal acquisition in this situation.
The 20-year-old, who thrived at Brighton, is seeking assurances from Chelsea that he will have a regular starting position before he
commits to staying for the upcoming season, and Liverpool has been keeping a close eye on him behind the scenes.
Unfortunately, Chelsea’s message to Liverpool, who just made a second inquiry about Colwill, was very apparent. It will take a
tremendous amount to convince them to change their thoughts because they do not intend to sell.
There is a little amount of waiting involved here. Colwill won’t speak to Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino before their preseason tour
starts since he is abroad with the England Under-21 team, but if that chat doesn’t happen.
A left-footed, ball-playing defender, Colwill looks like an absolute superstar of both the present and the future. If there’s a deal to be done,
Liverpool will look to do it.
Goncalo Inacio
Age: 21
Sporting CP
Goncalo Inacio, a defender for Sporting CP, is 21 years old. The Portuguese league has recently produced a number of players who are
ready for the Premier League, and there is no reason to think that trend won’t continue.
A Liverpool backline that already takes pride in its capacity to overload in the offensive third would benefit greatly from the prolific,
accurate passing style of Inacio, who thrives on creating opportunities from the back.
He also does not avoid his defensive responsibilities; his one-on-one skills and timing in a tackle stand out.
It’s not surprising to learn that Liverpool is contemplating Inacio because he plays in a manner akin to Colwill’s but at a player who would
probably cost half as much.
Aymeric Laporte
Age: 29
Manchester City
The Premier League champions of Manchester City are considering spending big on Josko Gvardiol, so Aymeric Laporte’s future there is
far from certain. Could Liverpool profit from this?
For the right price, City are more than willing to do business with their Premier League rivals, and they might not need much persuasion
to move Laporte, who only has two years left on his deal.
Although Laporte’s experience in England hasn’t always been ideal, there are few better when the Spain international is in top form.
What makes Laporte such an appealing prospect is his knowledge of the Premier League. There would be no need for a settling-in period
and the 29-year-old should be primed to hit the ground running.
There’s competition for Laporte’s signature from across Europe but the chance to remain in northwest England could help lure him to
Anfield.
