Liverpool are now looking towards Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Mario Lemina as a potential addition this month.
Mario Lemina is the new surprise name on the Liverpool transfer wish list as they continue to weigh up midfield signings.
That is according to Foot Mercato, who claim that three major Premier League clubs are interested in signing Lemina.
It’s claimed that one of them is Liverpool, who are desperate for midfield additions in the final weeks of the transfer window.
The other two Premier League clubs aren’t named but it’s suggested that Saudi Arabian clubs are very interested in Lemina.
The Gabon international is thought to be happy at Wolves and is just focusing on a strong season at Molineux.
Though Lemina appears to be drawing high interest, a delayed departure cannot be completely ruled out.
Wataru Endo of Stuttgart, who plays as an anchor midfielder, is on the verge of leaving, and Liverpool are already closing in on him.
According to The Athletic, Japan’s Endo has been given permission to have a medical before making a €19 million (£16.2 million) transfer.
However, Liverpool might still want a third midfielder and consider adding Lemina as another player to Jurgen Klopp’s powerhouse.
Wolves will surely fight to keep Liverpool target Mario Lemina
Wolves have endured a very, very difficult summer.
There have been a raft of major departures with Conor Coady, Nathan Collins, Ruben Neves, Joao Moutinho, Adama Traore and Raul Jimenez moving on.
Signings have been hard to come by and that resulted in boss Julen Lopetegui leaving too, with Gary O’Neil coming in to replace him.
Wolves can’t really afford much more upheaval and will be desperate to keep a player as important as Lemina.
The 29-year-old was impressive against Manchester United on Monday night, providing a strong defensive presence in front of the Wolves back line.
That’s what Liverpool are seeking right now but Wolves really need Lemina too – especially just months after paying £9.7million to sign him from Nice.
Liverpool may be willing to offer a profit but if Lemina doesn’t agitate for a move, Wolves need to keep hold of him in their quest to stay in the Premier League.
