City notched their first win of the Championship season against their Yorkshire rivals
Sheffield Wednesday head coach Xisco Munoz admitted his side were well beaten by a rampant Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday, as the
Tigers outclassed the Owls to win 4-2.
Juan Delgado’s deflected strike put Wednesday ahead firmly against the run of play in the first half but Ozan Tufan’s penalty in added time at the end
of the opening period drew the Tigers level.
The Turkish international crashed in a sensational second just before the hour and then made it three with a cool finish from Adama Traore’s pass,
coming back to haunt the manager who first brought him to England when he was manager of Watford.
Aaron Connolly came off the bench to take advantage of some haphazard defending to make it 4-1 and then Michael Smith scored in injury time to
remove some of the considerable gloss that had been put on the scoreline.

It’s back-to-back defeats for the Owls on their return to the Championship, and Munoz says his side needs to learn quickly.
“The second half we were very far away from what I want,” Munoz said. “I didn’t see the balance for a consistent performance, but the situation right
now is to control emotions.
“We need to control the moments and we need to improve with duels – both in offence and defence. We needed to improve on many things, but every
day we get better and better and get closer, but we need to find a solution.
intensity was different in both halves and how Hull moved the ball. It’s my responsibility to change how we react. This team, right now, needs to work
very hard to find the balance.
If we think we can come here and win 5-4, it’s impossible. We need to improve about clean sheets, defensive situations and other things. This is my
job. They called me for this situation and I’ll give 100 per cent to this. It’s also my responsibility.
“We need to improve about clean sheets and defensive situations, but this is my job. They called me for this situation, and I will give 100 per cent.
“It is my responsibility. The players gave everything, but we now have to improve our tactics and our fitness. We need the balance – this is the
situation.
“The first half was closer to the performance we want, but we didn’t do it in the second half. The intensity in the second half was the difference. This
is one of the situations we need to improve.
“This team has more capacity for attacking, but we need to work very hard about the balance, with more time on the ball and playing higher. We need
to understand better about what the Championship demands.”

Sheffield Wednesday player ratings as Ihiekwe and Gregory have nightmares in Hull City shocker
How Yorkshire Live rated the Sheffield Wednesday players in today’s Championship trip to Hull City, with the Owls heavily beaten 4-2 by Liam Rosenior’s side
Devis Vasquez 4
Big call by Munoz to hand him the gloves for his league debut. Stood no chance with the penalty or Hull’s second but could he have done better with the third? A shame as early on he made some tidy saves.
Dominic Iorfa 5
In at right-back and coped well, for the most part, with the lively Lokilo. Made four tackles and interceptions – most of any Owl. Best of a bad bunch.
Bambo Diaby 4
Another making his league bow. Got backed into a corner at times and didn’t always make the best decisions. Made highest number of clearances – five – but will need to improve drastically going forward.
Michael Ihiekwe 3
The type of game where cool heads and leadership were needed but sadly it was lacking. Summed it up with his shocking mistake for goal number four.
Akin Famewo 5
Preferred to both Reece James and Marvin Johnson – neither in the squad – at left-back. Did ok in the main but there were times when huge gaps appeared down that flank which Hull punished.
Tyreeq Bakinson 5
Was one of the better performers here and continued the recent trend of recording more shots than some of Wednesday’s forwards – not that they were on target sadly.
Barry Bannan 5
Got caught out in possession early in the first half and struggled with the tempo as he failed to influence the contest. Took a knock shortly before his half-time withdrawal.
Callum Paterson 5
Quick thinking for the opener, as he took a free-kick briskly and teed up Dominic Iorfa who set up Delgado. Hassled and harried all day. Blotted his copybook with yet another yellow – his third in as many games this season.
Josh Windass 5
Never really had a sniff although he was operating in a more favoured number ten role. Tried to make things happen but just didn’t come off.
Juan Delgado 5
Another who had a quiet game first half but he was in the right place at the right time to fire home the opener. Having said that he consistently
backed off when defending, as was the case with the third.
Lee Gregory 4
Gave away the penalty and although replays suggested it was a harsh decision, he shouldn’t be going in with his elbows like that. Also committed
most fouls of any Owl – four. One to forget.
Substitutes :
Will Vaulks (For Bannan, 46) 4
Below-par when he came on at the break. One of many who failed to impress upon the game.
Michael Smith (For Gregory, 62) 5
Hardly got a sniff but showed composure right at the death with a consolation strike.
Anthony Musaba (For Windass, 62) 4
Another who made precious little impact.
George Byers (For Bakinson, 62) 4
Couldn’t make any kind of impression.
