NEWS FLASH: BURNLEY ON A VERGE TO SIGN 28 YEAR OLD SCOTLAND INTERNATIONAL.

TEAMtalk claims that central defender Jack Hendry of Club Brugge is being pursued by both Burnley and Sheffield United.

The Scotland international was out on loan to Cremonese for the first part of the previous campaign before Scott Parker

called for his recall during the winter transfer window.

During the 2022–2023 season, he only made eight appearances for Club Brugge while making only six for Italy.

During the 2020–2021 season, Hendry transferred from Celtic to Oostende on loan and established himself as a major

member of the team.

The team played an intense pressing style under Aleksander Blessin that garnered a lot of praise.

Hendry was a standout in Blessin’s three man defense alongside Arthur Theate.

Hendry’s performances were so outstanding that once Oostende made the loan permanent, they were able to make money

when they sold the defender to Club Brugge.

Hendry made 33 appearances and scored one for the Belgian champions in his inaugural season. The contract of the 28-

year-old will end in 2025.

Ex-Burnley man Taylor takes charge at Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury have named ex-Burnley midfielder Matt Taylor as their new head coach.

He succeeds former Clarets chief Steve Cotterill in the hot seat after the 58-year-old left by mutual consent earlier this

summer.

Taylor, who made 39 appearances during a two-year spell at Turf Moor, has been out of management since he was sacked by

Walsall in February 2022.

“I’m delighted” he told the club website. “I think when you come to the stadium, when you look at the infrastructure behind

the football club, there is nothing (I feel) other than a burning desire and excitement.

“I’m very aware the football club has a successful playing style – something that has worked when you look at the finish last

season.

“I think it was the second-highest finish for 34 years so there is a lot that is going right at the football club.”

He continued: “I think what’s important now is that everyone understands just how hungry I am for this opportunity. I am

also very grateful to be given this opportunity at such a wonderful club.”

Shrewsbury finished 12th in League One last season and were just outside the play-off places for a spell before suffering an

injury crisis.

Director of football Micky Moore added: “We went through a thorough process. I said right at the beginning that I needed

time.

“I met quite a few candidates for a coffee, had a lot of telephone conversations with people, and obviously then brought the

number down to be interviewed.

“We interviewed five and then we got down to the last two and Matt fit the criteria we set out right at the very beginning.

“I think from the moment I walked in, from what I’ve said our head coach will look like, Matty fitted that script and I’m very

excited to have him on board.”
