NEWS FLASH: Burnley and a leaving Bristol City star are in negotiations, and the Europa League is interested

The 21 year old star  is leaving Bristol City this week, but as to where he ends up, is still yet undecided.

Han-Noah Massengo’s future is away from Bristol City, although it’s unclear exactly where he’ll wind up.

On Saturday, July 1, his contract will expire, at which point he will become a free agent. The 21-year-old was given a new

contract by the Robins last year, but negotiations stalled and he lost Nigel Pearson’s favor for his unwillingness to sign a

contract extension.

Massengo played out the remaining months of his contract while on loan in his native France, but Auxerre was relegated to

Ligue 2.

He was frequently associated with leaving Ashton Gate, but no clubs made serious transfer offers. For the first few months of

the 2022–23 season, he was in and out of the lineup and forced to play for the Under-21 team.

Despite not playing much this year, it looks that a number of clubs are interested in signing him, with City having a passing

interest in where he goes.

Real Betis, along with the Bundesliga teams Freiburg and Wolfsburg, were named as being interested by RMC Sport.

However, Real Betis has since emerged as a potential destination. Next season, Betis and Freiburg will both compete in the

Europa League, which could provide Massengo with another opportunity to play in Europe.

City’s ideal destination would be newly promoted Burnley because they would be paid more according to FA rules.

Massengo’s contract offer gave them a chance to recuperate part of the money they spent on him in 2019, but if he leaves for

another country, they won’t make as much money as they would if he chose to stay in England.

Although preliminary talks are claimed to have already taken place and the Clarets are said to have a “strong interest” in

Massengo, one of the newest Premier League teams has not yet made a firm bid.

The Salford-born right-back stayed at the Stadium of Light for seven campaigns before moving to Stoke City and then

Burnley then becoming a free agent following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2021-22 campaign.

Ex-Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney was reportedly eyeing a deal to bring his former teammate to

He only made a handful of appearances at the League Two club before calling time on his career after injuries had limited
