‘Must find a solution”: Tottenham trying to sell £20m player to fund late double deal
Tottenham Hotspur remain active in the transfer market and are looking to see if they can bring in a new midfielder before Thursday.
Spurs have made good signings this month already by adding Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin to the ranks.
Antonio Nusa is also being tracked and could end up signing by the time the deadline passes.
However, a new midfielder has been high on Tottenham’s wishlist all winter. Both Conor Gallagher and Ederson have been heavily linked with moves to Spurs.
But according to Fabrizio Romano, a move for Gallagher or Ederson is only happening if Tottenham can somehow find a buyer for £20m signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Tottenham trying to sell Hojbjerg for midfielder swoop
Speaking to GiveMeSport, Fabrizio Romano has said that Tottenham are open to doing business for a new midfielder, but need to move Hojbjerg and maybe others on to get someone of high calibre in.
“I don’t think it will be easy to go for this level of player [Ederson or Gallagher]. So, Tottenham must find a solution for Hojbjerg and other players; in that case, they can sign an important midfielder.
Otherwise, they can look for an opportunity, but it’s not guaranteed. Tottenham are pleased with what they’ve done in the market because their moves were very smart and executed at the right time.
So, now it’s time to look at the market for an opportunity. If something comes along, Tottenham will be ready. Otherwise, they’re pleased with the squad they have.
At the moment, they’ve still not approached Chelsea for Gallagher. So, there is no direct conversation, and it remains an expensive deal for the winter transfer window. It won’t be easy at all,” Romano said.
Running out of time
The news around Hojbjerg potentially leaving has been rife throughout the window but it doesn’t look like he is going to be going anywhere quickly.
Put simply, it does look like Spurs have ran out of time to sort any big deals out in the final days of the window.
The signing of Conor Gallagher would be a massive one but with just four days to find the money and convince Chelsea to sell, Tottenham are right on the wire here.
Of course, football moves quickly and you never know. But with so many plates to spin here, it looks like Tottenham are just going to run out of time.
