Former Stags midfielder Sam Clucas has joined Oldham Athletic, a team aiming for promotion in the National League.
During the 2013/14 season, Clucas scored 13 goals, helping Mansfield secure an 11th place finish in League Two. Eager to play at a higher level, he moved to Chesterfield, a newly promoted League One team, in September 2014. His time there was successful, contributing to the Spireites reaching the play-offs that season.
Clucas then transferred to Hull City in the Championship and later played in the Premier League with Hull and Swansea.
After leaving Rotherham United at the end of last season, Clucas was a free agent and had been training with Oldham.
In a statement on the Oldham website, he expressed his excitement about the move: “I’m thrilled to have signed and to finally make this happen. I’ve been training with the team for a couple of weeks now, and it’s a fantastic group to join.
“There’s a great mix of experience and youth, and the manager is excellent to work with, so this is an exciting opportunity for me. Oldham is a massive club that doesn’t belong at this level, so I hope to share my experience with the team and help us achieve success.”
