Ange Postecoglou is just two more signings away from taking Tottenham Hotspur to the next level. The 58-year-old has done a brilliant job since touching down in north London, transforming the Lilywhites into a side that not only plays exciting football but also produces results.

Combining his footballing values with a tremendously brave philosophy, Spurs find themselves just five points adrift of the Premier League title race. Liverpool, who have a game in hand, top the table with 45 points, while Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa are two points short in second, third and fourth respectively.

As for Tottenham, they currently sit fifth and Postecoglou will be determined to climb into the top four by May. But, with just one league win in their last three games, the Lilywhites need something to spur them on – a signing or two which could claim Champions League qualification.

So, with that being said, football.london have taken a look at what business Tottenham should do before the January transfer window slams shut.

New faces at Hotspur Way

Conor Gallagher should be the first name on Postecoglou’s shortlist this month. football.london understands that Chelsea were actively trying to sell the 23-year-old midfielder this time last year, but a move collapsed and he’s since become a key player for Mauricio Pochettino.

In the summer, Spurs were among several Premier League clubs who wanted to secure Gallagher’s signature, with Postecoglou said to be a big admirer. Newcastle United and West Ham also expressed an interest in the England international.

It’s said that Liverpool were in the race to sign him earlier in the summer window, but a move to Anfield failed to materialise after Jurgen Klopp got his hands on Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai instead. While Gallagher may have just 18 months remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, the CIES Football Observatory still values him at an impressive €60million (£51.4m).

The next player that Spurs should sign is Antonio Nusa. Whether he’s sent back out on loan or brought into the first team, the 18-year-old forward would be a fantastic acquisition. football.london understands that the Lilywhites have held talks with Club Brugge about a potential transfer and loan back deal.

Nusa, who idolises Neymar, has featured 14 times in the Belgian Pro League this term, scoring two goals and providing just as many assists. It’s understood that Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool, as well as numerous other clubs across Europe, have all shown interest in the teenage sensation in the past 12 months.

According to reports in Belgium, Club Brugge could demand as much as £30million for the youngster’s signature this month – which could be quite a gamble in today’s economy. Therefore, some players will need to be offloaded…

Time to say goodbye

To raise some funds, Tottenham should cash in on Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, Bryan Gil and Ryan Sessessgnon, who CIES believe are worth around a combined €60million (£51.6m) in today’s market. While the trio could very easily become key players for Postecoglou one day, with some impressive attributes on offer, the fees raked in for their signatures could be crucial.
