Liverpool have just uncovered new leader as teenage striker cannot stop scoring
Your morning Liverpool digest after the draw against Manchester City at the weekend unearthed a new leader in the dressing room.
Your morning Liverpool headlines for Monday, November 27.
Liverpool have a new leader who just helped Jurgen Klopp outsmart Pep Guardiola
Trent Alexander-Arnold was careful to choose his words when discussing if Liverpool’s makeover had accelerated their ascent to the top of the Premier League.
“Looking around the dressing room, looking at the players we have got, the team, the spirit, the vibe around the team, that is something that we feel is achievable,” stated the right-back.
Alexander-Arnold has three championship matchups under his belt at Manchester City, so he is familiar with what it takes to contend with Pep Guardiola’s team. The personnel and tactic changes have inspired enthusiasm.
Sometimes, though, matters must be taken in hand. And so it was that with 10 minutes remaining at the Etihad on Saturday and Liverpool one goal behind, Alexander-Arnold moved on to a Mohamed Salah pass, took one touch and drilled an angled right-footed shot into the bottom corner.
Having spoken confidently before the match, now the Reds man was content to put his finger to his lips and enjoy the brief silence of the City support before being targeted for jeers and vociferous abuse.
The fixture was always going to be an important one for Alexander-Arnold. While some will point to issues with Jeremy Doku defensively – and the defender was definitely among those to react slowly in the build-up to the home team’s opener – any player would find the City man problematic in his current vein of form.
And the fact is that, on the afternoon, no Liverpool player made more tackles or completed more interceptions than Alexander-Arnold. There could be no question marks over his defensive contribution.

Liverpool have 17-year-old striker who simply cannot stop scoring
Jayden Danns continued his remarkable goalscoring form as Liverpool under-18s finished their Premier League Cup campaign with a romp over Newcastle United.
Danns returned from an injury absence to score twice as the young Reds secured an impressive 5-1 win at the Academy in Kirkby on Saturday afternoon.
Keyrol Figueroa, Kieran Morrison and a first goal for Ben Trueman completed the rout for Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side, who knew before the game they had no chance of reaching the knockout stages.

Report: Liverpool set to step up interest in £52m rumoured Spurs target
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool are plotting a move for Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar ahead of the January transfer window.
It has been widely reported over the last month that Spurs are prioritising signing a new centre-back in January, with a whole host of names mooted as targets for the North London club (GiveMeSport).
Earlier this week, The Daily Mail reported that Ange Postecoglou’s men have a number of names on their central defensive shortlist which includes Inacio, Marc Guehi, Jarrad Branthwaite, Malick Thiaw and Sporting Lisbon’s Morato.
The 22-year-old has developed into one of the best centre-backs in the Primeira Liga over the last couple of years and he has established himself as a starter for the Portuguese national team over the last few months.
Tottenham’s defensive ranks suffered a huge blow earlier this month when summer signing Micky van de Ven was ruled out into the new year after he suffered a serious hamstring injury during the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Liverpool keen on Inacio
TEAMtalk now state that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen on finding a new defensive partner for Virgil van Dijk and has set his sights on the Sporting player.
The outlet explains that the Reds have scouted Inacio closely for a couple of years and the academy product is willing to move to Anfield in January.
However, it is explained that Sporting do not wish to lose the defender halfway through the season and any interested clubs would instead have to meet his £52m release clause to sanction his exit.
Spurs Web Opinion
We beat Liverpool to the signature of Micky van de Ven in the summer and I am sure the Reds will want to avoid a repeat of that in January. I expect them to swiftly meet the defender’s release clause.
Tottenham know all too well that Sporting are prepared to stick to their guns when it comes to the valuation of a player, having taken the North Londoners right to the wire with their negotiations over a deal for Pedro Porro last year.
