This season, Liverpool supporters have become accustomed to witnessing their team steal victory from the jaws of defeat.
The Reds did the same tonight after turning the tide of the match late on against Fulham the previous week. Even though Liverpool was behind 1-0 against Crystal Palace going into the last fifteen minutes, they managed to win.
Harvey Elliott’s winning strike went in right when the fourth official signalled for 10 minutes of injury-time. Just as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s goal was at Anfield on Sunday, Elliott’s sweet effort was scored beyond the 90th minute.
If some Liverpool supporters were feeling a sense of deja-vu then nobody could blame them. According to Opta Joe on X, the Reds have now scored more winners after the 90th minute than any club in Premier League history. And it isn’t even close.
Elliott’s goal was the 43rd late winner that Liverpool have scored since 1992. That’s a full nine goals ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
17 of those – or 43% – have come during Jurgen Klopp’s reign over the past eight years. Go home early at your peril!
Liverpool leave it late again
Some will no doubt see Liverpool’s propensity to score late winners as simply coincidental. Someone has to top this table, perhaps it doesn’t really matter who.
But that would be to ignore just how far ahead the Reds are in this particular metric.
