Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp explains half-time change he had to make to combat Man City that got fans reactions

Liverpool came from behind to earn a point against Man City in the top of the table Premier League clash at the Etihad as Trent Alexander-Arnold cancelled out Erling Haaland’s opener.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp admitted his side had to change their plans at half time to combat Manchester City in Saturday’s Premier League draw.

City went in front in the first half when Erling Haaland scored his 50th Premier League goal. The Blues reached the interval in front but Liverpool improved after the break and found a leveller when Trent Alexander-Arnold scored 10 minutes from time.

The result kept Pep Guardiola’s side a point clear of the Merseysiders in the table. And Klopp was pleased with the result, particularly after a first 45 minutes where he felt his side were below their best.

“I told the boys at half time to imagine how good it would be if we played well,” said the Liverpool chief. “We were having bad moments and feeling them but also good moments and not feeling them. We had to settle a little bit but putting Trent in a different position defensively gave us much more stability and for the moment we’re in right now, I’m fine with a point.

“It is a really good moment for us, it’s a really tough place to come and it’s no coincidence that they win that many home games.

“It’s a place that you know you’re going to suffer at when you come here and it’s a game that you’d like to have more time to prepare for. With the quality they have, the fluidity they have, we are still in a process and I think if we would’ve played really good today, we could’ve won.

“We didn’t, we played okay in moments and we scored a goal which is fine but our good moments didn’t feel as good as theirs did to them. You could see it in the body language in the first half so we had to stretch ourselves again, push ourselves again and adapt slightly.”
