Liverpool could break transfer policy to sign €180M jewel: He prefers Anfield

If Kylian Mbappe moves to the Premier League, his preferred destination is Liverpool, according to journalist Francois Plateau, after his entourage confirmed that he has not agreed to join Real Madrid.

On Monday afternoon, Mbappe’s entourage confirmed, via RMC Sport, that he has not agreed to join the La Liga outfit after a claim in France suggested the 25-year-old had reached a pre-contract agreement with Madrid over a transfer to the Bernabeu in the 2024 summer transfer window.

As this particular transfer saga rumbles on, it is being reported with increased regularity that Mbappe views moving to Anfield as one of his top choices.

PSG pay the striker absurdly high wages and Real Madrid are likely the only other club on the planet that can afford to pay them yet Liverpool remain tipped to surprise football fans by making a move to sign him in the summer.

Kylian Mbappe prefers Liverpool over Premier League rivals

Reporting via Twitter, journalist Francois Plateau claims that “If Kylian Mbappe ends up in England, his preferred destination is Liverpool.”

He cites “speculation” that Liverpool could sign Mbappe if a move to Real Madrid “falls through.”

Additionally, FSG would be prepared to “break their transfer policy” to bring him to Anfield.

That’s exactly what would be required. Liverpool’s highest paid player is Mohamed Salah, who earns £350,000 per week.

Mbappe earns £1,200,000 per week.

In order to sign Mbappe, Fenway Sports Group would have to absolutely smash their current wage structure.

The only reason Liverpool even stand a chance of signing him is that his €180 million transfer value means nothing when his contract expires.

But because he’s available for free, there is the opportunity for the Reds to find a creative way to offer him a competitive contract.

Liverpool clear to agree signing of £64.6million a year star – Reports

If reports in the media are anything to go by then Liverpool are clear to agree the signing of Kylian Mbappe, who has turned down a move to Real Madrid.

Reports in France have indicated that the Reds have been in consistent contact with and will hold talks soon to convince the player to move to Anfield.

News – Liverpool ready to move with priority signing of £51.6m star this month – Report

According to The Times, Mbappe has rejected a move to the Los Blancos and is now open to joining a Premier League side.

The Spanish giants set a deadline of January 15 to agree a pre-contract with the Les Bleus star but he does not like the pressure and will make his decision when he wants.

The decision to snub the Santiago Bernabeu outfit have now put Liverpool in pole position to secure the signing of the 25-year-old superstar.

As per The Times, Mbappe is a confirmed admirer of Klopp’s style of play at Anfield. The German manager is himself a huge fan of the playmaker.

The Merseyisders may be in the clear but the real question is, can they really afford to complete the signing?

According to The Athletic, the former Monaco man earns a base salary of net £64.6million a year (75 million euros).

Liverpool will have to break their pay structure to have any chance of getting the Frenchman. In doing so, the may also end up breaking the dressing room harmony under Klopp.

It must be remembered that Klopp may have to replace Salah soon and Mbappe is just one of the very few players who are actually good enough to take the Egyptian’s place.

Liverpool could hinder Bobby Clark by signing “monster” £13m Pogba clone

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly interested in signing this exciting prodigy this year.

January tends to be a time of turbulence at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool enjoying years of illustrious success but often hitting something of a bump in the road upon the turn of the new year.

The 2022/23 campaign took this to a new level, one deep down at the nadir of the German’s tenure, but with a summer of sweeping change, Liverpool appear to be navigating through the year’s opening month.

Indeed, an emphatic Premier League victory over Newcastle United on New Year’s Day preceded last weekend’s dogged triumph away against Arsenal in the FA Cup third round, setting the tone for the upcoming months that Liverpool hope will crescendo in silverware.

By the way, this is very much attainable, with Liverpool first-placed in the league and still competing across every cup competition, with the semi-final of the Carabao Cup – against Fulham – forthcoming.

It would be wise to bolster the ranks though, and while January is a notoriously tricky time to convince teams to part with their players, Klopp might have identified an exciting prospect to complete the midfield.

Liverpool transfer news – Assan Ouedraogo

According to Caught Offside, Liverpool have placed FC Schalke midfielder Assan Ouedraogo on their six-man shortlist for 2024, with Bayern Munich also interested in the teenager.

Player Club
Khephren Thuram OGC Nice
Manu Kone Borussia Monchengladbach
Assan Ouedraogo FC Schalke
Goncalo Inacio Sporting Lisbon
Pedro Neto Wolverhampton Wanderers

Ouedraogo, aged just 17, has been a prodigious force in his homeland since the start of the campaign and has consequently got Klopp’s head craning.

Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has recently revealed that his €15m (£13m) release clause has accelerated Bayern’s interest, and with the Bavarian giants readying a bid, Liverpool must move quickly.

Assan Ouedraogo’s style of play

Schalke supporters are probably rather fed up, having yo-yoed between the Bundesliga and Germany’s second tier over the past several years, relegated in 2020/21 and then promoted and then relegated again.

A bit convoluted, but now the mist has cleared and The Royal Blues find themselves languishing in 14th place in Bundesliga 2. at the term’s midpoint – an unenviable position for a club of prestige.

Ouedraogo, however, has been a beacon of hope throughout dark times and has impressed this term across 11 league appearances – posting one goal and one assist apiece – though he has missed the past six outings with a muscular injury.

As per FBref, the powerful prospect – described as a “monster” by journalist Antonio Mango – ranks among the top 14% of midfielders across divisions similar to Bundesliga 2. for goals, the top 19% for assists, the top 18% for shot-creating actions, the top 15% for progressive carries and the top 1% for successful take-ons per 90.

This showcases the snap in his craft and a penetrative presence in the centre of the park that will allow him to wreak havoc on opposition defences for many years, with this style bearing a certain semblance to Paul Pogba, according to sources relayed by TEAMtalk.

Pogba has slipped into obscurity over recent years but at his apex was undoubtedly one of the world’s finest midfielders; the Frenchman has an innate ability that most players can scarcely dream of.

The 2018 World Cup winner re-joined Manchester United in an £89m transfer in 2016 (a world record at the time) and notably won the Europa League and Carabao Cup, but he fell by the wayside the way a truck with no driver would careen off the road,

Having now failed a drug test with Juventus that may well have draped the curtain on a polarising career, there is more than a hint of poignancy, but in Ouedraogo, a clone could be reborn and Liverpool must push to secure his services.

If Liverpool could procure a player with a similar skill set to their rivals’ one-time star man – without the disciplinary issues, of course – then Klopp would be a very happy man indeed.

Who Assan Ouedraogo could affect at Liverpool

Ouedraogo is a brilliant talent but his acquisition and arrival on Merseyside would likely have negative consequences for one or two of the rising stars at Liverpool.

Stefan Bajcetic is probably the salient starlet that springs to most minds, but then the all-action Spaniard is rated highly and will find a pathway to success under Klopp’s guidance no matter the comings and goings.

However, the 18-year-old is not the only teenager looking to cement a regular spot in the first team, with Bobby Clark likely hampered in his progress should Ouedraogo join the pack.

The rising star could break into Klopp’s first-team plans this season…

Clark, aged 18, enjoyed an impressive cameo off the bench as Liverpool defeated Arsenal on Sunday, looking lively and making an intelligent tackle foul on Declan Rice to stifle a home break in the closing stage, leading 1-0.

The dynamo, who was shifted from a forward role to the centre of the park during his formative years, has been noted for his “splendid” displays for Liverpool’s development squad by reporter Keifer MacDonald and has now made three senior appearances.

And while development in football is certainly not linear, it’s hard to argue that Ouedraogo doesn’t currently have a lead on him, with the Schalke gem really showcasing his skills as one of Europe’s most exciting youngsters and earning top attention as a result.

With Clark similarly, a centre-midfielder boasting attacking qualities, it’s hard to dispute that Ouedraogo would not be an upgrade, one who could knock him down the pecking order and preclude his chances of success at Anfield.

He’s had limited involvement in North London.

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Gary O’Neil is keen to wrap up deals this month, and transfer insider Dean Jones has indicated that his side could look to offer a Premier League star the perfect chance to become a key player at Molineux.

Wolves shopping for bargain deals

It has been well-documented over the last year or so how much Wolves have had to move things around to contend with Financial Fair Play regulations, and they have only just managed to keep their heads above water in that respect due to their impressive £140 million fire sale in the summer.

Big names such as Matheus Nunes, Ruben Neves, Conor Coady and Nathan Collins were among those sold to balance the books at Molineux and Gary O’Neil will undoubtedly be keen to avoid any further agitation in the market moving forward as his side continue their quietly impressive Premier League endeavours.

The Telegraph have reported that the Old Gold will prioritise bringing in loan signings this window as financially advantageous deals take precedence in the West Midlands.

West Ham United striker Danny Ings is believed to be a target for Wolves after falling out of favour at the London Stadium and could offer some guile and experience in attack as a proven goalscorer. Acquiring an out-and-out centre-forward and an addition on the flank looks to be the direction the Old Gold are keen to take in January, with goals hard to come by from their traditional number nine options.

Premier League Top Scorers Club Nationality Goals
Erling Haaland Manchester City Norway 14
Mohamed Salah Liverpool Egypt 14
Dominic Solanke Bournemouth England 12
Son Heung-min Tottenham South Korea 12
Jarrod Bowen West Ham England 11
Hwang Hee-chan Wolves South Korea 10
Alexander Isak Newcastle Sweden 9
Ollie Watkins Aston Villa England 9
Cole Palmer Chelsea England 8
Nicolas Jackson Chelsea Senegal 7

Now, journalist Jones has shed some light on a player he believes Wolves could consider that would also fall under the bracket of a loan signing.

Dean Jones drops Reiss Nelson to Wolves verdict

CBS Sports claimed at the turn of the year that Wolves and Sevilla are both keen to bring Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson on loan in January following his limited involvement at the Emirates Stadium this term.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jones has now indicated that Wolves could consider the possibility of bringing the former England Under-21 international to Molineux and called it a perfect fit: “Obviously, he’s struggling to make himself a regular part of Arsenal’s starting XI and that’s fine, but a club like Wolves would be perfect for him in order to get more game time and make an impact more regularly.”

Reiss-Nelson-Smith-Rowe

He then added: “I think the fan base would actually really like a player like Reiss Nelson, so it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they look into the potential around the loan deal. But again, why would Arsenal want to loan out a player that they might need to call upon off the bench across this season? It’s a difficult discussion to have.”

Despite his obvious talent, Nelson continues to find it difficult to become a regular fixture in Mikel Arteta’s side and Wolves could be an ideal destination to kickstart his 2023/24 campaign.

He’s been called “incredible” by Man City boss Pep Guardiola.

Jhon Duran could reportedly leave Aston Villa during the transfer window after the club showed a willingness to listen to offers. According to the Daily Mail, Duran hasn’t always seen eye to eye with manager Unai Emery, particularly after being substituted in certain games.

That may be part of the reason why Villa are open to the idea of letting him leave, with Serie A giants AC Milan interested, but before they do that, they must have a suitable replacement lined up. Duran may be second-choice in the pecking order to Ollie Watkins, but he’s still played 21 games this season, coming off the bench 13 times in the Premier League and starting five matches in cup competitions. Villa will need to fill a 563-minute hole – and it looks like Emery may have a player in mind to do just that.

Iheanacho could replace Duran

Football Insider’s Wayne Veysey reports that recruiting a new forward is “the top priority” for Emery, and says Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is “among the targets”.
