Khephrem Thuram, Manu Kone’s most recent development, Levi Colwill’s position, and Federico Chiesa’s ‘interest’ in Liverpool have all made transfer news.

Ian Doyle, the lead LFC writer for The Liverpool ECHO, has responded to fans’ most pressing queries.

This summer, Liverpool has already dabbled in the transfer market, and there is still a lot of buzz about who might follow Alexis Mac Allister to Anfield.

After losing James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the engine room, Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team are working around the clock to bolster the club, especially there. A left-sided central defender is being considered, although other ideas are also being made.

It also means that as the countdown to the upcoming Premier League season continues, newly hired sporting director Jorg Schmadtke has been getting down to business after taking over from Julian Ward when Mac Allister was signed.

Joe 88: In order to get Mac Allister over the finish line, Liverpool reacted quickly. How soon do you think we might hear about a new hire at Anfield?

Ian: Before the start of preseason in four weeks, I’d be shocked if there wasn’t at least one new face. The Reds would prefer to have two, but the transfer window is lengthy and there are many moving elements, especially since this is most likely a post-World Cup transfer window.

window. The important thing is that Liverpool has already made their primary aim.

Daniel4774: Is there really a chance Levi Colwill will join or is it just a case of admiring his skills without actually being interested?

They seem to like him, but recognizing quality is one thing; moving a player from one team to Liverpool is quite another. Nevertheless, Chelsea must let several players go. Any sale will rely on what Mauricio Pochettino wants, and given that he has only recently taken the position, it is obvious that he hasn’t made his thoughts known.

Are attempts to sign [Federico] Chiesa real, tomlfc50?

Ian: I haven’t heard anything similar.

What do you think about LFC, Banksta?

will be able to accommodate the need for at least one homegrown player to arrive? Sincerely, I don’t think hiring [James] Ward-Prowse is a smart move. The supporters wouldn’t accept it kindly.

Ian: Though there are always outliers, I don’t think fans’ opinions are a real factor in the majority of transactions. We haven’t heard anyone mention Ward-Prowse. He might have become had he been a few years younger.

Telboy52: There have been numerous more young players named, but none of them could be categorized as a defensive midfielder. Do you know if the team has plans to bring in a player to help with this issue?

Ian: Both [Manu] Kone and [Khephren] Thuram, in particular, have defensive midfield skills and have played there frequently this season.

Liverpool will undoubtedly consider it when deciding who their next midfield target should be this summer.

Saggy100: Journalists are speaking more specifically about the addition of three midfielders and one (preferably left-footed) center back. Are there any other names you’re hearing except Colwill?

Ian: There are now no real names, in part because the midfield is the first priority. They probably don’t want to spend a lot of money on a center-back just yet if doing so would prevent them from acquiring a second midfielder. Possibly, the second midfielder should be introduced before evaluating the possibilities. That would make sense logically, but hey, it’s transfer window time, when logic only has a minor impact…
