JUST NOW: During the clash between Neal Maupay and James Maddison, an Everton player sends a two-word communication.

Amadou Onana has got involved in the clash between Everton loanee Neal Maupay and Tottenham star James Maddison.

The Brentford striker and Tottenham midfielder have been involved in a social media war of words after their league meeting on Wednesday (31 January).

Tottenham won the match 3-2, with Maupay using Maddison’s darts celebration following his goal which put the hosts 1-0 ahead.

“Went a bit early with that one,” Maupay posted on Instagram. “Gutted we couldn’t get the win. More goals and less relegations in my career than James Maddison. We go again Monday bees.”

Among those commenting on the post from the Brentford loanee was Everton midfielder Onana, who wrote: “Love that.”

Maddison also took to Instagram after the match, posting an image of Maupay doing the celebration, with the words: “A short story… COYS.”

Feisty

It was certainly a feisty encounter in North London, with several on-field issues at play during the 90 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And unsurprisingly, Maupay was at the centre of much of it, with the striker annoying Maddison with the well-known celebration.

But the Brentford man, who was also shown a yellow card during the match, was ultimately left disappointed, with Tottenham coming from behind to win the five-goal thriller.

Destiny Udogie started the comeback with an early second-half goal after the hosts went into the break 1-0 down, with his effort quickly followed by one from Brennan Johnson.

Richarlison then added a third shortly after, with Ivan Toney giving the visitors a chance with their second of the game, but it proved to be the last goal of the evening.

Everton

Amid all the fighting, Everton manager Sean Dyche will be pleased that Maupay is now finally finding his feet while on loan at the Bees.

In other Everton news, a BBC Sport pundit has made a “laughing again” prediction about the Toffees as appeal news emerges.

Sean Dyche issues Everton transfer window update for final 48 hours after draw at Fulham amid £20million links

Sean Dyche has seemingly shut down any chance of Everton making signings ahead of the transfer deadline with his comments after the draw with Fulham.

The Toffees boss, as per the Sky Sports live-blog (30 January, 10.48pm), expressed his bafflement that the club had been linked to a £20million player, while making it clear that there is not money like that to spend this month.

His side were held to a goalless draw at Craven Cottage while missing the midfield trio of Amadou Onana, Idrissa Gueye and Abdoulaye Doucouré.

Dyche said afterwards: “For some reason, we keep getting asked about players who we know nothing of. We were linked with a player for £20m. I don’t know where we’ve got the £20m to buy him.”

Bemused

Without a budget it was always going to be difficult to do much work on the squad this month but any fees generated by departures could in theory be turned around and spent if they weren’t put towards other financial concerns at Goodison Park.

And there appeared to be movement in terms of loanees coming and going as the club have seemingly made attempts to find an attacking replacement while Arnaut Danjuma was lined up to leave for Lyon.

It now appears the Dutchman, who started against Fulham, won’t be going anywhere which necessarily rules out any other temporary arrival taking his place.

The form has faltered following the excellent run of wins to start December, and Everton have now failed to score in four-straight Premier League outings.

Everton

Injuries and international duty have come at a bad time, but so far the club have at least avoided a high-profile exit for the likes of Jarrad Branthwaite or Onana.

Dyche would no-doubt love to add to his squad this month but it looks tricky so peripheral departures may be the only activity that happens before the deadline.

In other Everton news, sources believe a last-gasp exit from Goodison Park is now close to happening.
