Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto is pushing for a move to Everton, despite the Whites being unwilling to sell him.
Birmingham City.
Everton are keen on Gnonto and want to sign him, but have been unable to agree a fee with Leeds, who do not want to sell.
Unlike several other Leeds players, the Italy international does not have a relegation release clause in his contract.
Gnonto though wants the move to Everton and is pushing for it to happen, according to Italian broadcaster Sportitalia (via Calciomercato.com).
The attacker has no desire to play his football in the Championship this season and wants a Premier League return.
With the transfer window remaining open until 1st September, Gnonto will hope that Leeds have a rethink and agree to sell.
Without Gnonto, Leeds went down to a 1-0 defeat at Birmingham City which leaves them with a point after their first two Championship games.
Leeds United transfer news as £25m Wilfried Gnonto price tag now set amid Everton interest
Leeds United have now slapped a £25m price tag on Wilfried Gnonto amid continued interest from Premier League side
Everton, according to TEAMtalk.
According to the online outlet (11 August), Everton have made the Italian winger their top target this summer but the Whites are reluctant to lose him
with Gnonto trying to force through his exit, making himself unavailable for Wednesday’s EFL Cup win over Shrewsbury Town and now Saturday’s
clash at Birmingham City (Fabrizio Romano, 11 August).
An initial bid had been reported from Goodison Park [Mail, 16 July] and according to The Times (11 August), it now appears that a second has since
followed from Everton but Leeds have rejected it once again.
According to TEAMtalk, Leeds United are determined to negotiate the best price for Gnonto if they are forced to cash in on the attacker and they have
placed a new £25million valuation.
Bound to leave?
Leeds United’s position on Gnonto is perfectly understandable given the number of players they’ve already lost this summer, but it’s been made
abundantly clear how he feels about his Elland Road future.
Gnonto clearly wants to depart the club and it now appears as if the relationship between the two parties have significantly deteriorated as a result of
the Whites’ stubborn stance.
But something’s got to give now because Farke simply cannot afford to have another unhappy player in his camp, what good will that do for their
Premier League promotion aspirations? Or even the young players in the Leeds camp? What example will it set for others?
Gnonto is a Premier League-level player and the Italian certainly knows that and is confident in his own ability to become of the best in his position
in the English top-flight but any club who wants him, have to stump up that £25m price tag.
Everton are desperate for him right now, but do they have that kind of money in their warchest? Given their financial issues right now, that looks
uncertain but it may leave the door open for other Premier League clubs to exploit.
