Moving to Liverpool might not have seemed like the best idea for a top European player a year ago. The Reds saw the end of a successful cycle and the start of one to forget. However, one summer transfer window
later, Jurgen Klopp appears to be on track to write yet another chapter of success in the Anfield record books.
When the January transfer window, as well as the summer transfer window, arrive, pitching a move to Liverpool should be much easier, especially if they secure their return to the Champions League in the current Premier League season. They might even persuade a Real Madrid target to join Klopp’s new project rather than join the La Liga giants.
Liverpool transfer updates
Liverpool deserve credit for how well they’ve transitioned after losing Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho, and James Milner over the summer to Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, and Alex Mac Allister. Klopp’s new-look midfield has been almost flawless in comparison to how defeated the Reds looked in the middle of the park last season.
Liverpool must now strengthen their defensive options after focusing on their midfield during the summer. This could lead to the arrival of Goncalo Inacio. Real Madrid are concerned that Liverpool will sign Inacio in the near future, according to AS. The Santiago Bernabeu want to strengthen their defense in January and could move for Inacio, who reportedly has a €60 million (£52 million) release clause.
Of course, Real Madrid signed long-term Liverpool target Jude Bellingham in the summer, making the Reds’ pursuit of Inacio all the more intriguing when the January transfer window opens. Perhaps determined to avoid another defeat against Los Blancos off the field, the Reds may well press on to sign the Sporting CP defender.
Liverpool should sign “strong” Goncalo Inacio
Given the previous injuries suffered by Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, and Joel Matip, it’s no surprise that Liverpool is reportedly looking for another central defender. Klopp is only a few fitness concerns away from having to start Jarell Quansah, who has impressed this season but is not yet ready to be a regular starter at Anfield. Inacio’s statistics show that he is more than capable of matching Liverpool’s current backline.
Player | Progressive Carries | Progressive Passes | Tackles Won |
Goncalo Inacio | 17 | 78 | 7 |
Virgil van Dijk | 3 | 35 | 3 |
Ibrahima Konate | 6 | 18 | 4 |
Joel Matip | 5 | 24 | 4 |
Joe Gomez | 9 | 25 | 6

Inacio has received a lot of praise after performing at such a high level, including from former coach Jose Lima, who told RR: “The psychological aspect is one of his great strengths, as he shows a lot of tranquility in any situation, in addition to his technical skills.” He can demonstrate complete calm while playing, which is a huge asset for both him and the team.
“At the time, he could play as a left-back in the academy because his dominant foot is his left.” He now plays on the right side for Sporting, despite the fact that that is not his dominant foot. As a result, as the games progressed, he evolved and became more confident. He’s becoming a more powerful player. He has always played with distinction.”
