Sheffield Wednesday are understood to be interested in signing Preston North End defender Bambo Diaby as the Owls target more deals in the summer transfer window.
Sheffield Wednesday are working on a deal to sign Preston North End defender Bambo Diaby. As first reported by Wednesday blogger Matt Brown, Yorkshire Live
understands the Owls are interested in bringing the Senegalese player to Hillsborough.
Diaby, who counts Sampdoria, Girona and Lokeren as his previous clubs, moved to Deepdale in January 2022. He initially joined the Lancashire club on a short-
term contract. He caught the eye in his seven appearances, prompting the Lilywhites to tie him down to a longer deal.
The 25-year-old featured 18 times last term, scoring once. He was retrospectively punished following a mass brawl in Preston’s 4-2 loss away to Swansea City,
meaning he sat-out the final three matches of the regular season due to suspension.
Diaby has dealt with his fair share of setbacks in his career. The centre-back was found to have breached the FA’s Anti-Doping Regulations after returning a positive
urine sample in October 2020 and was banned from all football-related activity for two years. Barnsley terminated his contract by mutual consent.
Sheffield Wednesday boss makes loan admission with some players possibly on the move
The Owls boss has used a number of academy graduates since arriving at the club last month, with several of them also making it onto the plane for their preseason
warm weather camp in Spain.
Part of it was down to the sheer lack of numbers in the senior setup prior to the recent transfer additions, but a handful did still feature on Saturday afternoon when
Wednesday took on Luton Town at Hillsborough in their final friendly before the restart.
With first team chances possibly few and far between once all of the new signings have been made, the Wednesday manager has admitted that there could be come
moves on the cards, exits that the teenagers could no doubt benefit from.
“We will see,” he said when asked about potential loan exits. “Some players yes, some players no. We know how the Championship is, and you need players who are
in the U21s that can also play with us. So some we can loan out, some players we can’t.
“I wanted to give them minutes because they’ve given 100%, I’m very happy with them.”
The U21s were in action on Tuesday night against Beverley Town over in East Yorkshire, with the youngsters beating them 2-1 thanks to goals from Favour
Onukwuli and Devlin Moses.
