JUST IN: PGMOL chief Howard Webb And PL Officials apologised to Liverpool after VAR debacle against Tottenham

Following the VAR disaster against Tottenham, PGMOL chief Howard Webb issued an apology to Liverpool.

Howard Webb, the president of PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited), apologized to Liverpool after VAR erroneously disallowed Luis Diaz’s goal against Tottenham Hotspur in the first half due to offside.

This comes after PGMOL acknowledged in an official statement after the game that a ‘significant’ human error had occurred after Diaz had the ball in the back of the net.
The statement read: “PGMOL acknowledge a significant human error occurred during the first half of Tottenham Hotspur v Liverpool. The goal by Luiz Diaz was disallowed for offside by the on-field team of match officials.
“This was a clear and obvious factual error and should have resulted in the goal being awarded through VAR intervention, however, the VAR failed to intervene.
PGMOL will conduct a full review into the circumstances which led to the error.”
The club’s lengthy unbeaten streak came to an abrupt end at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and Howard Webb reportedly apologized to them.
The biggest talking point following the game was undoubtedly Diaz’s disallowed goal, but referee Simon Cooper’s decision to dismiss Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota also drew intense criticism.
Jones initially received a yellow card for a challenge on Yves Bissouma, but Hooper chose to dismiss the English midfielder after consulting the pitchside monitor.
However, Jota was dismissed for two bookable infractions, the first of which was controversial because video afterwards showed that Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie had actually tripped himself.
The Reds will be without Jones for three domestic games due to the fact that he received a straight red card, while Jota will miss just one game as he was given his marching orders for two bookable offenses.
However, both players are expected to feature in midweek as Liverpool prepare to host Belgian Pro League club Union Saint-Gilloise in the UEFA Europa League.

Premier League faces questions as blundering VAR duo BOTH worked in UAE on Thursday

Darren England, Dan Cook and Michael Oliver all worked at a game in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday, before travelling back for Tottenham’s clash with Liverpool.

The officials at the heart of Liverpool’s VAR fiasco Darren England and Dan Cook worked at a game in the United Arab Emirates less than 48 hours before the controversial encounter with Tottenham.

England, who was on VAR duty for the game at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and assistant Cook, were at the centre of the offside debacle which left Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool fans fuming.

Luis Diaz thought he had given the Reds the lead, only for the offside flag to go up. VAR had a brief look at the incident and did not overrule the initial decision, even though replays showed the Colombian was onside.
