Liverpool are one of a number of clubs who are trying to sign Southampton’s Romeo Lavia this summer.
Along with the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal, the Reds are keen on bringing Lavia to Anfield to add more depth to what is now
a depleted looking midfield.
Of course, competition for Lavia is massive and for good reason.
Seen as one of the top youngsters in the whole of England, Lavia should be a guarantee in terms of a player who will go on to have a big career in the Premier League.
And while the competition is there for the Belgian, Chelsea might well have just paved the way for Liverpool to get ahead of
the rest in the race for Lavia.
Confirmed by Fabrizio Romano this afternoon, the Blues have sealed a deal for young midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu.
And while that might not mean much to Liverpool fans, it could provide a big opportunity.
Ugochukwu could see Chelsea back off Lavia move
Chelsea are making a habit of signing young players under Todd Boehly. It seems to be part of their long-term strategy to
plan for the future and hope these players become superstars.
But right now, Chelsea’s decision to sign Ugochukwu could indicate they’ve going to leave the ‘incredible‘ Romeo Lavia alone
now.
Ugochukwu very much plays in the same position as Lavia and with that in mind, it could mean the Blues know the
Southampton man has his eyes on a move to Anfield.
For Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, this is a massive potential boost for the club. It means Chelsea might be out of the running
and in reality, is one less club to worry about in the race for the Belgian.
Certainly, it seems like if there was ever a chance for Liverpool to get Lavia, then it’s now.

Video: Jurgen Klopp absolutely loved what 20-year-old Liverpool man did in Singapore training
Liverpool are out in Singapore working hard in training ahead of a pre-season clash with Leicester City tomorrow.
The Reds have flown out to the Far East to once again impress the huge crowds in that part of the world and the training
sessions put on in front of those crowds often have a different intensity to them.
For manager Jurgen Klopp, the idea of training sessions having that added intensity is ideal. The German coach loves his
teams to play and train at full pelt and he’ll be delighted with what he’s seeing over in Singapore.
Of course, we get to see some really good content with Liverpool doing the behind training series. And watching the latest
clip from the Reds, Klopp can be seen loving one piece of play from young midfielder Harvey Elliott.
In the clip, Elliott receives the ball wide with a cluster of players around him and then using his left foot, clips a wonderful
cross-field pass to feet. From there, Klopp – who is nearby – screams to Elliott, saying he ‘loves that Harvey’ following the
pass.
20-year-old Elliott will hope to play a huge role this season. And impressing Klopp in training is certainly one of the things
he can do to make that happen.
RTK’s View: Harvey Elliott set for a huge year
With the Euros coming in 2024, you’d have to say that this is a huge chance for Harvey Elliott this coming season.
The youngster is getting better and better and has put that horrible injury right behind him now.
With midfield having gaps in it and new faces coming in, Elliott will be hoping to cement a spot in the starting XI.
And if he does do that, then the sky is the limit for a player who is widely seen as one of the best youngsters in the Premier
